Oil change? What's that? Reply #4 – December 01, 2009, 05:53:06 PM Way back in the 70's I new a guy who never changed oil or did almost nothing and averaged 200,000 + miles out of his Ford F-100's. All V8s.He did change the oil filter every 10,000 or so when he thought about it and added a quart. He never did any other servicing what so ever. Nothing. His policy was to use the trucks as long as they would last and junk them.I had a 79 Monte Carlo that I religeously changed oil and filters and it was sludged up really bad. Couldn't even see the rocker arms. The car leaked like a sieve and when the valve covers were removed there was all the sludge and oil. Oil that couldn't drain back down. What a freeking mess. I never pulled the intake manifold and we soon sold the car to an unsuspecting dealer who had it resold in a day. The car and the buyer were taken out by a train a week later. On the other hand all my Fords have never had any sludge. But I do change oil every 3-4 thousand miles. My problem is the rest of the car falls apart while the engine keeps on ticking. Quote Selected
Oil change? What's that? Reply #5 – December 01, 2009, 05:53:49 PM after reading the thread(and the other one leading up to it) i dont see any way to actually prove this car has gone 60k without an oil change, other than taking his word for it. the chrysler concord my brother bought was just as filthy as that under the valvecover but without the chunks. even though they have sludging issues that py car had service records proving the oil was changed every 3 months.untill i see a vin number ran im calling bs on this. Oil change? What's that? Reply #13 – December 02, 2009, 12:06:58 AM this isnt trivial,,,time lapsed and the oil got thinowner heard tapping on the top endgot advice from someone who said engine is prob going outwas told to get some STP engine treatmentoil fill cap located directly over top of the timing chainone can didnt do the trick but did help some so another can was added.stuff that takes about 5min to pour out on a cold day really doesnt thin out too easily. Oil change? What's that? Reply #14 – December 02, 2009, 06:59:44 AM Which is why when and if you DO use STP or the like, you add oil behind it....I've used it before on an engine that I eventually tore down......Everything was clean.... Quote Selected
