Need some advice! November 30, 2009, 08:37:38 PM Hello all, I am new to this forum and I am glad I found it. Seems like people like to give a lot helpful info here.. Anyways, I have a problem. I have a 95 Thunderbird 4.6 and was driving yesterday and my throttle cable (or accelerator cable) broke on me! My problem is, I can not find one of these anywhere! Called all auto parts stores in the area, nothing. Called ford garage and they told me this part was obsolete and there is not a warehouse in the country that has one. Called all the junkyards in my area to no avail... How and where am I supposed to locate a throttle cable.. This seems a little hard for me to believe that it is impossible to find one of these suckers.. I have found universal cables online but they go by length and I would have no idea how to adjust it or get it on with no problems... Blah I need some help here... By the way I want to get pics of the ride on here... I have a Full body kit, nice fiberglass hood, some engine work, exhaust system, shift kit, and headers.... pretty nice... Anyways if someone can help me with my problem it would be much appreciated!!! Thanks in advance! Quote Selected
Need some advice! Reply #1 – November 30, 2009, 08:39:09 PM Where in PA are you. Im a U-Pull-It yard fanatic. There are literally HUNDREDS of those cars in the yards and the cable will probably only cost ya like $2 Quote Selected
Need some advice! Reply #2 – November 30, 2009, 08:49:20 PM Im in the belle vernon area (just south of pittsburgh if you dont know). There are a couple junkyards (Flowers, Seacrest, not sure if I spelled that right) But I could only get ahold of flowers and they guy quickly informed me he had none of those... I dont know what else to try... There has to be somewhere with a throttle cable... Thanks for the quick reply by the way! Quote Selected

Need some advice! Reply #4 – November 30, 2009, 08:53:11 PM There's a yard in Pittsburgh (North) that may have a few of those cars. I also know of one that's past North Versailles on Rt. 30 that may have a few MN12s.It really shouldn't be that hard to find a throttle cable for an MN12. Frankly, I'm surprised that you actually wore one out. That doesn't seem to happen too often. If you need any more information on Pittsburgh salvage yards, feel free to PM me. I'll do whatever I can. Need some advice! Reply #6 – November 30, 2009, 08:57:38 PM I was surprised too!... And I wasnt even on the gas hard I was just cruising... It was almost like someone sabotaged me! Was just goin down the road and snap! Peddle went to the floor. I pulled out the cable and it looks new, and it is funny it looks like a clean even cut on the cable... It wasnt even worn down, rusty, or anything. Shiny silver cable! Quote Selected
Need some advice! Reply #7 – November 30, 2009, 09:03:51 PM You need to call the place on Rt. 30 - I'll send you a PM with the name of it if I can remember. A word of warning: I went there to purchase a factory jack (scissor-type) and they wanted $25. I may be wrong here, but I would imagine that at least 99% of those things get crushed along with the car. They should be happy with $5, but I walked out of there after they told me what they wanted. You should find your throttle cable there, but they may drop a heavy number on you. Quote Selected
Need some advice! Reply #8 – November 30, 2009, 09:10:04 PM Thank you I will be looking for your PM... If I have to go in there and pull it out im not paying more than 20 bucks for a throttle cable... Maybe Ill just have to go for the 5 finger discount. A throttle cable would fit nicely in my pants! Need some advice! Reply #9 – November 30, 2009, 09:18:57 PM These days it's very rare to find a salvage yard that will allow you to go back into the yard and fart around. It used to be more common. After being there, I got the vibe that they don't allow people back in the yard. You tell them what you're looking for, they punch it into the computer, and they send Cletus/Jethro/Billy Bob into the yard to yank said parts. With that said, I don't think I could conceal a throttle cable in my pants. It's not as fun as it used to be. I used to spend hours walking around in junkyards simply examining the busted and forgotten relics. I'm unsure if it was insurance policies or theft prevention, but it's nearly impossible to gain access to a true junkyard anymore. Makes me feel kind of sick, to be honest. Quote Selected

It didn't work to say the least, they were silicone so they kept getting bunched up in a big bulge. I ditched them and got out of there before anyone was the wiser. Quote Selected
Need some advice! Reply #12 – December 01, 2009, 10:58:07 AM Hey cougar I called Spitz and they do not have the part either... I don't know where to try next... Ive tried everything I can think of... I even went on junkyarddogs site and they send a request to junkyards all across the country to find this cable and I still haven't got a reply which is strange because I have used them before and I usually get at least 10 replies with places that have the part I am looking for within like a half hour... Somebody help! This is my everyday car I dont even know how im getting to work today... Also let me tell you how I got the car home... Luckily it wasn't far from the house but I tied a long string to the throttle body and ran it through the window and just pulled on the string to accelerate haha... wasn't fun but it got the job done! What if I turn up the idle and just use cruise control to get around lol.. I'm pretty sure the cruise control uses a different cable than te throttle cable... Just a thought Quote Selected
Need some advice! Reply #13 – December 01, 2009, 11:57:20 AM There are at least a few PNP near me. I'm there about every other weekend. I love it. Once, my GF smuggled out a set of injectors in her bra (don't ask).I will probably be there this weekend if you want me to sniff around for a cable.-Z Quote Selected
