Toyota's biggest recall ever... LOL

That's all I can say. LOL.

Seriously, the gas pedal getting stuck under the floormat? The wreck that sparked this recall could have so easily been avoided if the moron behind the wheel had half the brain to shut off the key or go to neutral instead of dialing 911 and praying for god to miraculously stop the car. I don't mean to sound cold but total Darwin award for that. I feel bad for the others involved in the wreck.

Toyota's fix is to cut 3/4" off the bottom of the gas pedal. Why didn't they anchor the floormat to the food in its correct place like every other car ever made? Before this happened?

The car reportedly had the push button start/stop system and supposedly the acceleration overrides the brakes, still looks like he could have knocked it into neutral...

if i remember correctly i had a car that had this very problem...
oh yea, almost every car i had with factory floormats had had this happen once or twice. its happened a few times on my thunderbird.
it takes all but a second to realize and remedy this, hardly crash worthy.
not one of my cars ive owned had a hook or tab to prevent the floormat from sliding around once the little nipple things were worn out. i see it on some newish cars though.

Oh I've had it happen too. My first time down the drag strip in fact. I was 18 going 90+ thru the traps and it took me all of half a second to figure it out.

Push button ignition is retarded. I wanna be able to kill it if I need to. I heard he tried neutral but it wouldn't shift out of gear at full throttle. Cars are so Fisher priced nowadays its ridiculous...

It happened to me in my bird once or twice. All I did was shut the dang car off, and presto no problem. I want a car that will do exactly what I tell it to. Thats why I wont buy a new car.

I took my dads 2005 avalon for the floor mat recall last week-The mechanic did this-no bullshiznit. He took the floor mat and made sure it was fastened to the 2 hooks in the floor and then explained to me what he did. Basically this took 15 seconds-I thought they were going to give me a new floor mat or something. Total waste of time and a half a day of work. This was before they came up with the idea of sawing a piece of the pedal off. BTW My dads car has the push button ignition and the acceleration doesn't over ride the brakes. The push button ignition is IMO 1 of the coolest features of the car and I must say the Avalon is an excellent vehicle-Floor mats and all!

Speaking of Toyota quality, my buddy works at a Ford/Toyota dealer and he said they are getting sick of working on Toyota truck rust warranty problems. This is a picture of part of their "Toyota pile". Oh, and why do people think a push button starter is so revolutionary? My dad's 49 Ford had a push button starter in it. Heck, my 36 Ford even did one better from the factory. All I had to do was press a button on the floor with my foot, it was a hands-free ignition system.  lol.

Its for those people who never learned to drive an auto with 1 foot.

Ive done the neutral thing, Ive done the key off, oh and the real winner called pull the mat with your heels trick. Its called thinking, they panicked. Accelerator cant override a manual controlled brake such as an E brake one would think.

I think the problem is no one actually knows how a car works they just know it needs gas and how to start it. Other than that is almost all optional sadly. Our cars have become more advanced while our driver quality continues to decline.

The "supposed" electronics glitch that caused the acceleration also causes the brake problem... This is looking at the problem in the light that the floor mat isn't the problem, just what being said in some circles...

I heard about this about 6 months ago and thought "really, this guy couldn't just reach down and pull the floor mat back?" It's not that hard. I swear I'm amazed at how some people reproduce......
