Seized locks

I'm just trying to get a few minor things fixed on my car here and I got something else that needs some attention. I cannot lock or unlock either of my doors or my truck from the outside. The truck still opens electronically and the power locks work on the inside. Is there a way to repair this or will I need to just replace them.

Peace,
Dan W.

The rods from the actuator to the lock may be bent or off.I'd check that first.Maybe spray some lube into the lock and let it sit a while.

If the actuator rod comes off the key will work and the power lock buttons will not.  What you describe is the exact opposite.  Does the key turn?

No, it won't move at all. Sorry I should have mentioned that in my first post.

I've changed quite a few of those actuators on various Ford cars, lol.

Lock cylinder is most likely frozen/gummed up.  WD-40, liquid wrench, or something similar (NOT SILICONE SPRAY!!!) should do the trick. ;)

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Seems to me when 1 of my actuators locked up, I could not lock the door. I pulled the door panel off and unhooked the rod to the actuator. This allowed me to lock / unlock the door manually.

x2... I've seen that, daughter's '87 Stang froze a actuator and I now have that problem with my passenger door... Started with the actuator not operating, next thing I know it wont lock with the button or key...

The trunk, and both doors don't unlock? Doesn't sound like the lock cylinders as I cannot imagine all of them seizing up. Are you sure the keys you have are for that car? Is it possible that the ignition cylinder has been changed, thus explaining why it won't unlock the doors? And perhaps the trunk lock is he only one that is damaged? Something just doesn't seem right unless each of the locks stopped working one at a time, and you just let it go until now.

It's pretty easy to pull the retaining clip and pop the lock out. It will still be connected to the rod, but you should be able to tell if it's seized beyond hope or repairable. If it looks okay, then try the Liquid Wrench/graphite/whatever on it. If it looks melded into one piece of corrosion, then you'll have to replace it.

I had to replace both of mine on my 2000 F-150 (I had the same problem).the new ones that I bought, looked a little diff.,like they redesigned them.

This is another very common problem with the odometer, just in case anyone else has this problem in the future.I had to do this to mine, and it has worked great ,ever since I fixed it.

Correct, but he states his power buttons are working, hence the actuators are not stuck.

This is definitely possible. I'm surprised I never thought of this. For some reason I keep thinking that I seen and extra ignition hanging around in that car. Honestly I could imagine that this happened. I don't know much about the history of the car or anything.

Lets say that the ignition was changed. What years of cars can I use the locks/ignition out of? BTW the car is an 87' XR7.

I am pretty sure all the locks are the same. Most 80's ford cars were. The lighted entry key holes are square, the regulars are all round. The keys for my dads 86 cougar and 78 ford van had the same autozone part number when the locks were replace.
