Considering installing it for a test drive.
Anybody have any pros/cons about it? I'd like to hear 'em :D

I used it on my laptop for a while. It seemed to be very stable and intuitive.

All macs at home, and pc's (xp) at work, except for a 4 month old nvr running Lenux 2.6 Ubuntu 9.04, open office 3.0, firefox and VLC. Give it a try! It will take a few hours to get acclimated to, but so far, it is as stable as you can imagine, I use it daily with absolutely no issues!! Depending on your specific needs though, be aware of the non supported environments, specifically currently there is no viable itunes support...

ubuntu is supposed to be your "my first linux" version. Its supposed to be a stepping stone from window's to real linux. I think linux is fun to play with, but hard to depend on.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Since people can't read my mind :rollin:
I reckon my biggest question is if it's dead nuts reliable?
If it crashes often or I have to do quite a bit a bit to be able to play cd's/dvd's and games, I may not jump in.

I run XP now, and it's been very nice to me thus far. I do NOT want to even touch Vista. I've experienced it on friends' laptops, if I have to learn another OS, I'll go with something other than "Winders", lol.

Yet another question:

Is it possible (or feasible) to "get rid of" Windows after installing another OS?

Why not wait a few more weeks until Windows 7 is released?

Listen...I grew up on Macintoshes. They work like I think and obviously I'm more comfortable with them than anything else. At my last job I was forced to use Windows for the first time in my life. Yes, it was XP Pro. I can totally understand the frustration that people have had with Windows.

Then in my new job here, I have been using Windows 7. It's been about six weeks now. And let me tell you...not only is it stable, but I actually LIKE it. Not having ever used Vista, I can't do a direct comparison but coming from XP it's like a breath of fresh air. It's shockingly good. So far, everything has worked fine with it (printers, scanners, mobile devices, etc.) with no drama.

If Win7 can make a Mac guy happy...what do you think it will do for you?

Guess all I'm saying is, you might want to try it first. It's so un-Microsoft at times, it's scary. Just food for thought...
