Yellow jackets MUST DIE!!!!!

Sitting here waiting for dark with a VERY sore right ear. I was cutting the back part of my lot today, in places I've cut several times already, and the sneaky little buggers attacked me from behind. I bailed off the riding mower when the first one hit me four times on the inside of my right ear. Fortunately, I was wearing ear plugs, or he would have gotten in a lot deeper. While I was departing, trying to outrun the pain, another got me on my neck just below my left ear. While I was beating the dozen or so off me, three more got me on my back through my shirt. The ones on my back don't really hurt, they just itch a bit, so I don't think they got me good. The one that got me on the ear, though, must have had a stinger the size of a javelin. To be such tiny bugs, they sure inflict a LOT of pain.

Fortunately, I'm not allergic to them at all, nor anything else in the hornet/wasp family. But, they do PISS ME OFF when they sting me. I don't mind wasps/hornets/jackets around because they help control the fly and spider population. But when they sting me instead of their normal diet, it get vindictive. So, I eagerly await nightfall, and with a flashlight, a small can of fuel for the weed eater, and a very bad attitude, I intend to do much harm to the families of the ones I already sentenced to death. I already knew of one nest back there, and I wasn't within 30 yards of that, so that's why it caught me completely by surprise. The latest find is easy. The only reason I haven't already taken out the first one is because the exact location of the entry tunnel is hard to determine. The one I "found" today, though is VERY easy to see.

They WILL die, and hopefully in very large numbers. All they had to do was leave me alone. I can get along with any critter/insect that doesn't bother me. It ain't like I was destroying their home. It's IN THE FRIGGIN GROUND!!!. I was just sprucing up what they assumed to be THEIR yard. Nope, it's MINE. I'm about to assert ownership through practice of genocide on the little black and yellow bugs.

The deed is done.  I found the 'first' nest too.  They both got the same treatment.  About a teacup full of gasoline down the hole.  I thought about lighting the funeral pyre, but decided to let it slide.  I wouldn't give 'em that much respect.

Just a teacup? And you didn't light it? I thought they could create some pretty big nests...

Oh yeah, they can.  But a teacup full of gasoline left to sit overnight down a big hole full of paper is going to make for a lot of poisonous fumes.

I didn't want to be up all night on fire watch either.

I walked up to the hole with the flash light, and two of the little buggers came out to the opening to check on the short night they'd had.  Bet that wasn't a very nice surprise to get a gasoline bath.  But hey, they started this war.  I have a better arsenal than they do.

I sprayed a hive last week with 3M spray adhesive. Interesting results..... The ones that came back got stuck to the nest along with the ones I sprayed to the nest. LOL

Something about gasoline in a hole and a lighter reminds me of Darwin's theory of evolution, and the concept of survival of the fittest.  It might not make my ear feel better, but it would make ME feel better to watch the little critters roast.  Unfortunately, they're deep in the ground, and I wouldn't get that satisfaction, so I figured just let the fumes get 'em.  Kind of anti climactic in a way, but the results are the same.  THEY SHALL PERISH!

I have four little red marks along the inside edge of the ear where that sucker popped me before I could get him off.  Right now my right ear lobe is about a 1/4 inch longer than my left from the swelling.  Swelling will be gone in the morning.  Most of the throbbing pain has subsided, but now I got that itchy pain.  Reach up to scratch the itch, and that ear screams DON'T TOUCH ME!!!  I've been hit hard with blunt objects before (maybe that's why I bought a second '86 Bird) and NOTHING compares to the pain that little bug gave me.  Not on the ear, anyway.  Only pirates and pooftas have earrings, and there ain't no ships around here.  I definitely don't want my ear pierced.

It probably woulda made a good home movie when I bailed off the mower.  Hat went flying one way, safety glasses another, and slapping at the  that was piercing my ear dislodged the right ear plug.  Running around with a bright yellow ear plug dangling from the cord attached to the one still in my left ear, I saw my hat, and grabbed it.  Trying to figure out where they were coming from, and yet get the suckers off me, I just kept moving.  Meanwhile, the mower's up against a tree, spinning it's back wheels, and trying to figure out how to get that oak tree under the blades (yes, I removed the seat lift spring, but the switch is still functional if I turn it over).  After grabbing my hat, I started using it for a swatter to beat the already perched ones off me, and to deter any would be squatters.  I'm spewing expletives like a longsman, madder than hell (my strange reaction to being stung by the hornet family) and just wanting to finish cutting down the weeds.  All this, and NO ONE around with a video camera.  I think I would have enjoyed watching it, despite being the victim.  Good YouTube material.

heh i was 10 and i was in the woods around a tree's roots that had fallen over.  being 10 i got stung prolly from stepping on the nest... well i had a hoe (gardening people) and i hacked at the nest.  i got stung a few more times and i did the 100 yard dash down the creek in the yard prolly faster than an olympian getting stung over and over.  i think the count was 7, with the eighth rolled up in my shirt.  i wasnt alergic so they gave me benedril or whatever and i was fine aside from the pain.  the doctor did say i could end up alergic if i got stung again so i leave those evil mofookies alone.

Last nest we destroyed involved aresol cans and lighters (Flamethrower) and a 12 Ga shotgun, dangerous you ask? Yes. Hilarious? Doesn't get much more hilarious watching my 6'5" frame running as fast as I can to the house followed by my shorter and slower buddies. :rollin:

My cousin once tried the gasoline and lighter solution... have you ever seen the movie The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston? Remember the pillar of fire in the desert? Yup, that's what it looked like for around ten minutes!

Then the fire went out...

And then...

The bees started coming and going from the nest as if nothing had happened!
