83-84 Dash Install Kit?

Before i even attempt to buy anything,
What kits have you guys used in your 83-84 Dash for an aftermarket Head Unit install?

Any recommendations? Maybe i could make some brackets and a faceplate instead?

Wiring shouldn't be an issue as i don't have premium factory sound and a wire kit should make it a breeze.

Just need to get it fitting snug into the dash.
and a clean looking install would be a major plus.

I still have the factory 2 dial  am/fm cassette in there if your wondering. :hick:

Pics of 83-84 aftermarket installs would be great too.

I don't remember what kit I used, probably whatever Scoche kit walmart or autozone had at the time.

The trick for me was this: You know those 4 metal clips that cover the screwholes? Pull them off and put them on the ears of the radio kit. Then hold the radio BEHIND the dash bracket and run the screws through the dash holes (where the clips were) into the clips on the radio kit. What you end up with is a radio that sits nice and flush. I hate when the radio sticks way out of the dash!

The only other trick is to find an 83/84 radio bezel with the din openening instead of the 2-ber.

Here's what mine looks like. I also redid the cluster to fit an LCD, because at one time I had a DVD deck that had a nice MP3 playlist that would display there. But the deck broke and I swapped my kenwood back in. Now the LCD sits there doing nothing, lol. I might use it for a backup camera or something someday.

PS- Pardon the dirt, this is my work car ;)

Thanks Coog, Cool setup you got there.

Yea i actually forgot i have a DIN style faceplate panel i picked up awhile ago, It's got the system sentry built into the top bar though~So i need to look into wiring that up also.

It's real close to fitting flush in front of the dash bracket, But sticks out a bit.
So i think i'll go with how you did it~Flush behind the panel.

Now i gotta make or grab a mount kit and get to work.
