Got an AOD...no kickdown connection???

Sure hope that I'm looking at something wrong....but...

I just bought an AOD from a local fella.  It's a complete 302/tranny from an '85 Crown Vic...got it for $100.  He tells me it's an AOD, the pan says "Ford METRIC Automatic Overdrive".  But I'm not seeing the TV cable connection.  It also has a four wire plug above the shifter connection.

My '88 T-bird is at the mechanic getting inspected so I have nothing to compare it to.

Help!  Please tell me this will work.  If it won't...:punchballs:
1988 T-Bird Sport Coupe--5.0 HO, MAF swap, 1-5/8" shorties, BBK/Flowmaster exhaust, Explorer intake, 70mm Edelbrock TB, T5, B&M short throw, Centerforce clutch and PP, disc brake TC rear w/ 3.55's, TC front brakes, '98 Cobra springs, DIY SFC's, other misc .  14.05 @ 98mph with launching too low and shifting too high.

I just picked mine up and it has the same connector above the shifter but mine also has a kickdown lever in with the shifter.

your drive shaft will be too long with that transmission.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

They don't use a kickdown on an AOD.  It's called a TV cable/rod. :)

I understand that.....guess I just worded it wrong.  So does theTV hook on with the shifter rod?

About the driveshaft...can I change the tail shaft?

The arm that attaches to the TV cable is removeable...it may not be attached.

For what it's worth, I once put an AOD from my '87 Cougar into an '89 Crown vic. The driveshaft fit fine, all I did was flip the shift lever over.:burnout:

The TV cable is my biggest concern.

Don't you have one on the old trans? Or you can use a lokar cable, that's what I used when I had a aod.

I'm gonna steam off the 302/AOD combo later today.  I'll snap a pic then.  Actually...it looks just like the AOD in the "tranny swap" thread that is here.  http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=25162

Really...now that I look closer at the pic in the above linked thread, I see a small rod project forward from the shifter bar.  Is that the TV cable connection point???  Hhmm...

I do have all the stuff from the existing combo that is still currently in the car.  I'm just shy of these AOD's.  I was gonna use one in my 351W Ranger but everyone had bad stuff to say...variations, TV cable, strength, weight, etc, etc.  I have a set of 4.56 gears that would be AWESOME in that truck with an AOD.
