85mph only?

a couple of days ago i decided to find out how fast my tbird could go, but my car only registered 85 and wouldnt go over that yet when i start it up i clearly see a 100 spot on the display(digital). is there any way to correct this problem? :rolleyes:

lol...i had a girl tell me her little 4cyl b2000 truck was faster than my car cause her speedo went up to 120 and mine only went to 85...lol

people like that are all over. I wish I could find the information again where it stated why cars weren't allowed to read past 85mph during certain years. Just some regulation

I think it was during the years right before they made a federal speed limit of 55 mph.  They were trying to get people to conserve fuel by driving slower.

Obviously, since speed limits are 65 and 70 again, it didn't work.

Buy Stout brand gas, it has the extra octane needed to drive over 85 mph...

We ain't got that brand here on the east coast... Any other brand I could use, or to I have to get a truck load hauled in???

lemme talk to my dad, he hauls gas, and alcohol all over the east coast...
Dunno if he transports Stout Gas though...although he sometimes hauls Sunoco to Nascar venues...

Yea man... lemme try some of that Super Blue..

Oh wait I hit 115 mph at the track on a 150 shot, maybe I don't really need it???

nope, the speedo will just read wrong. tbirds dont have a govener or speed limiter. other than a ton of weight and weak engines...

Yes it WILL fool the speed limiter(if you have one). None before '87 had this feature, but possibly the '88 5.0 Birds/Cougs do. Disconnecting the speed limiter input at the EEC will disable the speed limiter totally... When Ronnie(chrome302jr) had the LSC EEC, his Tbird quit pulling at 102mph till he disconnected the speed sensor....
