Help with lers for stock 88 cougar xr7?

After owning my 88 cougar xr7 since 89 I would like to change my lers. The exhaust system is all stock. I would like to use lers that will give it a little sound without being crazy (to loud). My son is 3 and likes to ride along. I have to get them installed at a local garage since I can't do it myself. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Can anyone recommend lers for my car? Thanks

flowmasters, magnaflows.

X2 flowmaster.  I run them on all of my cars, quiet for the most part but aggressive when you open it up.

there is also a ler that is called a flowsound that is pretty close to the same sound as the flowmaster.  this is what I have on my 79 cougar and they sound pretty good also.

Id say magnaflows > flowmasters.

Then again you have a stock SO 5.0 so you arent losing much with the flowmasters.

You might want 3 chamber flowmasters instead of two. Then again small tailpipes will also quiet it dowm.

You may want to consider ditching the stock manifolds and Y pipe in favor of some stock stang headers and an H pipe in addition to the lers.

Another trick is to make sure your rear pipes clear the bumper.

A few years ago my friend gave me a set of stock mustang headers. Originally we were going to do the exhaust using the mustang headers and he was going to help me with the rest of the exhaust. He has performed all kinds of cool mods to his cars (tbirds and mustangs). We had also talked about doing the HO upgrade as well. A few years ago he moved away. I would love to do several things to my cougar. My son will be turning 3 years old next month and he is the most important person in my life. Its awesome that everyone has been posting info to help me out. For now I'm going to try to keep things simple since I have to pay a garage to do the work. Maybe when my son gets older I'll be able to try putting the mustang headers and doing a complete exhaust.
THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE
