Did 87-88 Turbo coupes have 140 speedos?

I was on ebay and noticed a 140 speedo for a turbo coupe was bid up tp 255 bucks and has 2 days to go. I looked at the T/C I have and it has the same speedo. Was this a motorsport item and not factory? Thanks

What he said. They were offered through the Ford Motorsport (FMS) catalogue for a very limited time back in the day and are quite rare today. Factory speedos in TC's were 85 MPH (and Canadian ones were 200km/hr or 120MPH). I've seen FMS 140MPH speedos go well over $500...

New old stock...means it's an original part, from back in the day...but still sealed in the packaging...thus, new..old stock..

That is basically correct. NOS literally means "New Old Stock". Notice the word "Old" in there though. NOS just means something was manufactured and then never installed on a car. It may not still be sealed in the original packaging. Many parts, sheet metal for example, were never really sealed up well to begin with, just wrapped in brown paper.

Grumbles, you really need to be careful when buying NOS parts. Most guys assume NOS means "just like brand new" and it doesn't have to. Usually it does, but not always. Sometimes, you will see a part advertised as "NOS, shelf wear". Watch for ads like that. That doesn't necessarily mean the seller is shifty, you just need to have your eyes open. For example, a Ford dealer orders a brand new 87/88 bird quarter panel for a customer and the buyer backs out. The quarter sits on a shelf until the dealer moves to a new location or remodels (two or three times over the years). How carefully is that quarter handled? Now it is 2009 and you see an NOS 87/88 bird quarter panel advertised as "NOS, shelf wear". You buy it and find out it's total junk because it's so dented up from guys who didn't care when they moved it over the years. Either that, or the dealer utilized an "outside storage facility" and your NOS quarter has more rust than the one on your car.

Sorry for the long winded comment. It's just that over the years I've dealt a lot in old Ford parts (30's - 60's) and seen guys get burned. Bottom line - Buyer beware.

About 10 years ago I saw a perfect white 88 for sale at a park and ride. Peered in the window to check the mileage and saw 12k on the clock. Then did a double take when I realized the odometer was rapped in a Ford Motorsport """200 MPH""" speedo. The only one I have ever seen. I wish I coulda bought it on the spot, but the guy wanted a butt load for it and it was gone the next day.

Fortunately I'm an odd duck.  I like the "weathered" look my bird has, and wont be changing it....Although the interior is a real sack of turds and will need to be reupholstered eventually
