What do you mow with?

Finally spring has sprung.  Being that I am a John Deere salesman by trade, this time of year a lot of my life is spent selling people tons of yellow and green lawn mowers.

Mine is a Deere GX345.  This baby has 20 hp Liquid cooled kawasaki engine, hydro transmission, power steering and power lift for the 54" deck.

I also have a snow blade and chains for snow removal.

I never thought I would start thinking lawn mowers could be "bad ass"...but ever since I've had this job I've been corrupted.  lol.

So, what do you guys mow with?

Nothing too fancy. I used to have an Allis Chalmers 416H with 16 horse Kohler, hydrostatic drive, and snowblower and tiller attachments. I blew the engine in it (broke the connecting rod) and bought a cheap MTD 13.5 horse riding mower. After I rebuilt the engine in the Allis Chalmers (new block, piston, rod) I sold it because it was too much tractor for me. I only used it for was mowing because it was too bulky to use the snowblower attachment (and single stage sucked), and the tiller would've meant gardening, which means work. Plus the MTD was faster, lighter, more nimble and easier on fuel.

First pic is the MTD, second is the Allis Chalmers.

A 1973 21" Snapper walk behind, self propelled of course... Also have a newer Snapper(guessing about 1980) that I have to push, both were curbside pickups...

I have a 22" Craftsman front drive POS the neighbor gave me, that one has a blown head gasket... It does have a 7HP OHV B&S engine that I hope to put on the older one, since it's using almost as much oil as gas... Assuming the old 3.5hp engine is making maybe three at best, ought to be a noticeable power increase...

17.5 hp sman 42" deck.  Takes about 3 hours.  That's after the it dries up.  The mower pic is from last year when it broke again.

I use two different mowers.

1- 38" Murray with 18 hp B&S  (formerly has 12.5)

2- 42" Murray with 17.5 hp B&S

Never hurts to have a back-up.

Oh really...you'll dig this then. ;)

It's my '02 model GT235 with the 18HP Briggs motor and 48" deck. Does a tremendous job. My father has an '03 model GT245 with a 54" deck and Kawasaki motor. Like the larger cutting swath but I like the Briggs motor better.

Yep, I did the graphics too.

Yard is so small and shaded it isnt worth having a mower.

Grams, Kubota, used to have an old L175. Thing was a beast. Never broke. Has a new one know but I dont remember the model.

Other Grams, is a 21" Self propelled Yard-Man

Same here. My front yard is mostly dirt and gravel.....my back yard sucks too. It's hard to grow grass in Tn clay. I use a weed eater, don't bother mowing....

Carl, I used one of those when I lived in Ely, MN with a double lot.  Worked great as long as you kept it sharp.  Cheap on gas, too.

Yeah Eric you just get cooler by the minute.  That is officially one majorly pimped out lawnmower.  Those graphics are sweet.  Combined with the chrome wheel covers it gives it a '50's hotrod feel almost.  There are alot of those GT235s/245's around these parts but I must say I prefer the Kawasaki over the Briggs myself.

I recently sold my buddy an old 322 (its from the '80's, hydro, 3 cyl Yanmar gas) and we just got done re-painting it.  He "pimped" his out too.  We put pinstripes on the outer diameter of the wheels (i actually stole that idea off the new "special edition" garden tractors), put chrome trim on the rear fenders, and put LED tail lights on it.  lol.

A 1973 21" Snapper walk behind,

You just can't beat an old Snapper for their simple design and pure ruggedness.  Sure it might take 4 hrs to mow and taking on hills is like putting your life on the line, but you can snag them up for super cheap.
