mustang rear

i realize the fox mustang rear is narrower than the cougar/tbird.  However,  will it bolt in?  will everything line up?  and then use rims with back spacing that is compensated for the narrower rear?

I'm doing this as well.

I got tired of looking for a TC 8.8 with 3.55 gears. (after I sold the one I did have...grrr)
Found one, part of my package deal with all my other goodies I got from a friend. Mucho Happy now :D

Edit: you do know that a 96-04 rear is the right width for '87-'88 Birds, right?
Yeah, i mean Base/GT stuff, I know some of the later Cobras had irs...

Something to consider, and I think I read that around '96 and newer, the V6 rears were the same as GT, same brakes, shocks, etc etc. Probably should google for more accurate info, as I may be wrong.

My car came delivered with a 7.5" from a Mustang. (no not from the factory, lol) and I plan to use it for experimenting with back spacing and wider tires without minitubbing.  Unfortunately, I'm a long way from that point and won't be of much help.

yeah except they were 7.5" and the GT's had the stronger 8.8"
I aam having a hell of a time finding any 8.8's from those years so I am considering swapping a 7.5" in for now...  It might last a year or two under my car, LOL:D

I ran a fox-body 8.8 in my old 'Bird and if anything, it centers the wheel in the wells a bit better...at one point, I ran 265/50R15 Futura's on 10-holes in the rear(wouldn't recommend it...lol) and i still had an inch on either side before I had to worry about rubbing the lip on the wheel well or the inside of the wheel-house.

sick88-  dumb question- when you say fox body rear,  you do mean a fox mustang rear,  right?

whats the worst that can happen if you use mustang uppers and lowers along with the rear?

Your pinion angle will be all to pen 15 and the rear wheels will be pulled forward.

Use the proper parts...
