Ever seem like its not meant to be?

well, my car has had that upper RPM/boost missfire issue

well, i ordered motorcraft plug wires, after being told that the autolites are the problem, and that itll cure the missfire issue

wires take 3 days longer to get here than they should, and this morning, i wake up, put clothes on and put them in, didnt even use the bathroom, get a drink, or food, i wanted to fix that issue

i change the plugs wires, everything goes on great, i get it put back together, start her up, and tear off up the street, and it missfires bad like it did before

so im pissed off

some time recently, i remember Brian telling me how he changed his fuel filter, and how it helped out, so figuring its something i need to do anyways, i go to hit up the local walmart, i get there (only 5 minute drive), and it starts to cloud up, get to the automotive section, and the part number computer dies just as im about to get the fuel filter number...so im getting more pissed

since its a short drive, i went back home, got the number, and go back, and i look at the racks, and the one i needed wasnt there, so im looking around all the others, and on the top of the rack, there is is, the one i need. I grab it, and the box is beat up, so i yank it out of the box, both clips are there, rubber endcaps are still there, brand new, proper part number, score

im walking up to the checkout, and the  thing falls out of the box, and rolls down an isle, so i had to look like a complete idiot chasing this fuel filter, then i kicked the  and it took off before i could grab it again, i had to chase it some more, got it, stuck it in the box, and held that  with 2 hands, that thing outsmarted me once, its not happening again

so i check out, flirt with the girl there because she was new, made an easy target because she was still learning how to take checks, and give cash back, and all that, and all she could do was blush, which was cute, so im walking, clenching that bag like its my candy bag on halloween, get to my car, fire it up, and it stalls...and stalls again...wtf...fires up, and idles, i was starting to get pissed again

leave the walmart parking lot, and guess what...it starts to rain

if this doesnt fix my problem... :shoothead
It's Gumby's fault.

Welcome to the magical world of Turbo Coupes ;)

I still don't buy that motorcraft wire bit though, I didn't have motorcraft wires on either of mine and never had that missfire problem and mine would both crank up the boost. Any decent set of wires will do.

Dude try a ECT sensor, solved all of my stalling, hard starting rough running problems.
(engine coolant temp).
O and get the ford one,i went through 3 aftermarket in 3 months.

well...

i changed the fuel filter, turnes out the schmuck that owned it before me cut the wires to the inertia switch and spliced them together because the switch went bad, so i disconnected it, started the car to run the fuel out of the lines...it doesnt work, shot fuel about 3 feet across the underside of the car

put it back together, primed the pump 2 or 3 times, started it up, and tore off, missfire was still there, not nearly as bad as it was before, but it was there

i hit the backroads and tried to figure out the tend, around 4,500 rpms, and 14psi of boost, it would start missfiring, so i got some gas, and came home

hopped online, and was discussing it with Chuck, he suggested disconnecting the knock sensor

well, i disconnected it, and she boosts 14-15psi, with no missfire!

Thanks Chuck
It's Gumby's fault.

I saw your thread on NATO. Nice man. Well, as long as you don't hear any detonation, you should be good to go.

No, I don't. But a fullow in my local Cruising club has that as his avatar, and I had to post it here. :D

Yes, as a matter of fact I do sometimes feel like it's not meant to be. Take my pride and joy, my '88 5.0 Bird, for example. You may remember I mentioned that after storing the car for the winter the fuel tank sprung a leak. Well, today I decided I would never have enough free time to change it myself (plus it is still March, y'know) so I brought it into the shop at work and let one of the guys there change the tank. Yes, I had to pay somebody to work on my car!

So the guy drops the tank, and there are not one, but two completely rotted out sending units in addition to the rusty tank. The fuel pump one was bad enough, costing me $114CDN to replace (I can't belive there was one at the warehouse), but the fuel gauge one is no longer available. My ride home being stuck on the hoist with no gas tank in it I had to improvise - I removed the electronics, sandblasted the top part, and soldered all the holes shut. I then mounted it in the tank and filled the area with epoxy resin. Once the resin hardened I installed the fuel pump bracket and undercoated the hell out of the tank and the trunk floor. I then turned the job back over  to the guy I was paying to do it.

So $300+ later the car is as good as new, right? WRONG. On the way home I stopped for gas, and noticed steam billowing out from under the hood. I popped the hood and couldn't really tell where the leak was because of the wind (very windy for the past few days here) but I think it's the radiator. There goes another couple hundred dollars...

So... anyone know if an aluminum/plastic SN95 radiator is a drop-in?

well Carm, youre not the only one, my issue has returned also

so back to the drawing board, need to start testing the fuel system, and possibly try another coil, to rule out the ignition components

Really doubt it's the coil man, there usally thought of as the culprit but are often not.
Also i don't think your fuel system is the problem either as if you were not getting enough fuel, A:you would have burned the engine down by now.
B: you would be getting a bog under accel.
I still say try an ect, can't hurt and they can cause a world of problems when they go bad.

I'm still bettin it has a weak fuel pump... At least half of the dozen plus TCs I've owned have had bad pumps...

To bad you cannot work on your own vehicals where you work.  Thats what I loved about my old job (at the service station):  always had a lift to work on my car after hours.

Actually, I can work on it at work. I just don't have time to. Heck, I barely even have time to work at work...

A: if the engine isnt getting enough fuel in upper RPMs, it would stop pulling, stop making as much boost, and stop making power, doesnt mean it would blow up

B: bog under acceleration depends, if im not getting enough fuel up top, because we know an engine under boost and in the upper RPMs needs more fuel, i could have enough down low, and barely enough up top

im doubting ECT because those usually throw a code, for codes, all i get is an 18, which is a power interuption to the EEC some how

Tom...got a fuel pressure gauge you mind bringing up  :giggle:

i pulled my cap and rotor, and im guessing these caps are , they seem to flex a little, and cause arcing, so i need to get some good motorcraft parts, just finding it around here is a pain
