Vacuum Noise From Driver Fender

88 Cougar, 5.0, HO Intake, 58k orig miles.
I have started getting a vacuum hiss when I press the brakes.  It seems to be coming from the driver's side fender/floorboard area.  I am guessing that I have some sort of check valve going out out. This sound familiar to anybody?  What is it and how do I fix it?

Inside or outside the car? If inside than maybe the brake release, the horse shoe looking thing on the steering column. It releases the e-brake for you when you put it in drive. Cap it off at the vacuum tree under the hood near the window wiper motor. Its "B/R"..

If thats not the noise than you might have a snake or something under the dash so be careful LOL

Inside the car.  Now that you mention it my cruise has been acting up.  How do I get at it?

It's located between the frame and fender

either the fender has to come off, or the wheel and plastic inner fender has to come off to get to it.

OK.  Here come the questions.

What am I looking at?
Is that the cruise? power booster?
Would I hear it leaking inside the car?
Replace or repair option?
Preferred way to get at it?
Any tricks?

Thanks

it's the cruise. could be the hose going to it. mine was cracked on a bend going through the hole in the frame.
not sure the easiest way to get to it, or if you would be able to hear it inside the car. But since it's on the drivers side, there's a chance you probably will hear it.

I suggest you start the car then stick you head down near the brake and press it then listen.

If you hear sucking coming from inside, its gonna be the brake power booster, even more likely if you do not have "E brake auto release" option.

By "acting up" I mean not consistently working.  It's been on my list to check.  We just finished building our first house and I was the contractor - so I have been a little overwhelmed and busy.
I can hear a vacuum leak every time I press the brake pedal - coming from inside.  It sounded like it was coming from the driver fender area.
I recently read your experience with your cruise. No fun!
