H pipe, what kind?

here emmisons legal is only what came on the car origonally. They told me that my 87 v-6 car failed the visual because I only had one tail pipe. There records showed all 87 and 88's have duels.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Carl, that BBK pipe should be alright. It looks like the cats are a little further toward the front of the car, which should mean better clearance around the shift linkage on the side of the AOD. I had eyeballed that same pipe setup until I realized the convertible would never be emissions tested. Went with a BBK off-road X-pipe instead.

At present I have a 2 1/2" Hooker off road H-pipe, fit is so so(right o2 sensor hit the bellhousing, had to grind out a demple). Also had to cut the lower ear off the shifter cable bracket so it didn't rub on the left pipe(I believe this is a issue on most 2 1/2 installs).

Before the day is out, it should have a BBK off road X pipe in place of the Hooker.

I'm using a MAC 2 1/2" catalytic H-pipe. It was a major bitch to fit. My cat-back system was made to fit the factory Mustang H-pipe so I had to loosen the ler hangers and move the tail pipes around a bit. Also the AOD shift linkage would not allow the drivers side to line up with the header at all. It was about 1/2" off. I had to re-drill the cable bracket and relocate it higher on the transmission. Everything ended up working out ok but it was about an 8 hour install/struggle. Probably the most difficult thing I've installed on my car besides replacing the AOD. I dread the day I have to take that thing off again!

Performance wise I have no complaints with the MAC but as for fitment... Egad!!!!

BBK off road H-pipe, no fitment problems. Had a Bassani x-pipe on my old 86, no problems there either.:D

Not quite, the Mark VII is longer to compensate for the longer wheel base than the mustang.

Yea thats what I always thought till today

.............50"......LSC....50" ....... .........52.5"...Hooker....50.3".. ......51"......... BBK........49"......

Apparently the aftermarket shiznit is all over the place. I tried to install the BBK in place of the Hooker, and its 1.5" or so too short... WTF??? Also it was all over the stock floor shifter linkage, the pipe is actually to far inward(take a good look at the BBK and the Hooker)...

If I am correct the Mark VII H and the Mustang H are the same.

Witebeastxr7 if you are interested you can have my spare H pipe from the Mark VII it is just collecting dust.

yeah the mark and the mustang are about the same.......except the mark h-pipe is longer....

ill give slamedcat a good buyer-seller relationship point...... i bought one of his extra mark h-pipes........and i had it in a couple days after he got the money it bolted right up, awesome person to work with

Exhaust question

I have an 88 Sport, still has original or original type exhaust setup. I want to go to a cat-less H pipe, w/Flowmasters. I have Mustang Headers to put on. All I want is a nicer sound. I have no plans to do anything to the engine, other than maybe replacing the stock Air Filter with a Cone and cold air setup.

My question/concern? Am I going to run into performance problems after the exhaust upgrade if I don't make any changes to the engine? I had an exhaust Mech try to tell me it would screw it up. My buddy who I will be working on this with has an 89 Mustang with the setup I want to go to, he has EFI, and he said all he had to do was tinker with the timing.

This car is my only car + is a daily driver. I can't afford a lot of problems if I can avoid them. I've had it 3 Yr4 Mo. It has 175,000 miles and runs great.
