2.3 auxilliary sprocket???

Does anyone know a good tool(homemade or namebrand) to take the auxilliary sprocket off the 2.3 TC motor???  I need to replace the rear timing cover!!

Wrap your timing belt around and use it like a strap wrench while you break the bolt loose.  Works like a charm.  Timing teeth hold the sprocket really well.
88 TC 5speed, 168000+ miles, stock 2.3T long block, ported RFE6 exhaust, Evergreen T3 running 15#'s.

The only thing is...the sprocket is pressed on!!  I bought this OTC tool that has a long handle and three legs that are supposed to grab the sprocket and hold it tight while you take another long ratchet with a socket and turn the sprocket off.  Problem is the legs don't line up with those 8 holes in the sprocket so I can't grab it tight!!!

Memory is a little foggy, but I could swear I used a standard two arm gear puller after I broke the bolt loose when I did mine.  The press fit isn't very tight.

By the way, how do you like the ranger cam??  Is it worth swapping out???

when I did the timing belt in mine I worked the gear back and forth until it came off then I used anti seize when i put it back on.

If your stock slider cam is sick and worn out, go ahead and swap to the ranger roller if  your on a budget.  It's a great cheap way to get into a roller cam.  Otherwise, save your money for something better.  I've heard great things about Boport cams.  He's been doing some great things with the 2.3 heads and cams.  I do plan on replacing my ranger cam with one of his in the near (or not so near) future.  His website is: bo-port.com.  Give his site a look over.
