Sony Sued!!!! March 28, 2005, 08:46:40 PM Sony was sued by the developers of the Dual shock controller. From what i understand sony will not be able to make anymore PS2's because the judge that presided over this case was such a dick that he ruled that it would be unlawful to produce dual shock controllers.[Taken from spong.com]Immersion Corp has filed a joint lawsuit against both SCEE and Microsoft’s Xbox division over the use of rumble force-feedback in the controllers of the PSone, PlayStation 2 and Xbox.Immersion claims that the three console’s rumble features are in breach of two sensory feedback patents owned by Immersion Corp that have been used for some time in automotive engineering and medical applications. The claimant company argues that the technologies employed by the gaming duo for on-screen feedback are an unlawful use of its design.Immersion Corp says that it has been in discussions with the two for “a few quarters,” with no agreement being made.On this point, you may remember that in our interview with Nintendo’s Mr Iwata last summer, he stated that Nintendo innovated rumble technology, only to have it copied by Sony. He said that this was the reason for such secrecy around Mario Sunshine for GameCube. If this is the case, surely Immersion should make Nintendo its prime target?-----------------------------------------------------------------[Attack of the show the replacemnet for Screensavers on G4tch tv had said that the judge also ruled that the production of the ps2 would be unlawful, because every new Ps2 is packed with a rumble controller. On the show however they made no mention of Microsoft Xbox or nintendo]----------------------------------------------------------------- Quote Selected
Re: Sony Sued!!!! Reply #2 – March 28, 2005, 09:45:16 PM Sony, eh? The same Sony that owns Sony music? The ones that are at least partially responsible for hundreds (if not thousands) of lawsuits in the United States against file sharers? Now they themselves are being sued? And for copyright (or patent) infringement, at that?Boo hoo... Quote Selected

Re: Sony Sued!!!! Reply #8 – March 28, 2005, 11:49:07 PM the motor in many vibratiors is designed exactly like the motors in a PS2 controller (long story on how i know this), basically, a small, maybe 120 series electric motor, with an offset weight on the shaft of the armature, same as in cellphones also...we could be rich! Re: Sony Sued!!!! Reply #10 – March 29, 2005, 09:45:27 AM actually...its a funny storythere was a guy i knew who was going through a very rough divorce, found out his wife of a few years was cheating on him for a majority of the relationship. then during the divorce, this woman basically puts him through the ringer, tries to get him for everything he haswell, he decided it was time for some personal revenge, he knew his wife had a "silver bullet" vibrator, the one with a polished metal casing, so he decided to try a litle something with it. he went and bought an identical one, and tried to design a compasitor/discharge system, that after 10-15 minutes of use, would emit enough of an electrical shock to cause a nice amount of pain, he showed me a prototype, be he didnt have any way of testing it, and i sure as hell wasnt holding a vobrator for 15 minutes out in public (i raced r/c cars with the guy)he took it apart, showed me the motor, and showed me these 4 rather large compasitors that he stuffed in there, i wonder if he ever got it to work Quote Selected
