separating fog light lenses and frames February 09, 2009, 01:10:23 PM I'd like to get the Marchal frames powder coated to match the rest of the trim. Is removing and replacing the lenses as simple as removing the existing seal then squriting some silicone in there? Quote Selected
separating fog light lenses and frames Reply #1 – February 09, 2009, 01:14:31 PM IIRC it was a specific rubber seal that was used, but I don't see why silicone wouldn't work. Unless it would melt under high heat, in which case the silicone should probably be of a high-temp variety if possible. Quote Selected

I did it with some sealed beams once and it didnt melt. I think you would be fine. Like Eric said hi-temp sounds like a good idea. Quote Selected
separating fog light lenses and frames Reply #3 – February 09, 2009, 05:56:20 PM Thanks for the responses. Eric raises a couple of interesting points. Does anyone know if the seals are available. (A quick google search didn't help me.)andThe powdercoater was concerned about the heat damaging the seals. Those halogens could very easily get close to the oven temps. Quote Selected

separating fog light lenses and frames Reply #6 – February 15, 2009, 12:38:56 PM Thanks for the link, Vinnie. I found a couple of busted housings. They're going to run them through the oven to see what happens with the gaskets. We'll go from there. Quote Selected

there's a joke in there somewhere Reply #8 – February 17, 2009, 06:38:32 PM Quote from: vinnietbird;257220What do you mean "run them through the oven"?... but I can't find it.I'm getting all the metal trim powdercoated. That process involves heat curing the paint, IIRC they said around 400*F. Quote Selected
