separating fog light lenses and frames

I'd like to get the Marchal frames powder coated to match the rest of the trim.  Is removing and replacing the lenses as simple as removing the existing seal then squriting some silicone in there?

IIRC it was a specific rubber seal that was used, but I don't see why silicone wouldn't work. Unless it would melt under high heat, in which case the silicone should probably be of a high-temp variety if possible.

I dont know how hot the fogs get but the headlights get pretty  hot and silicone works fine on them. I did it with some sealed beams once and it didnt melt. I think you would be fine. Like Eric said hi-temp sounds like a good idea.

Thanks for the responses.

Eric raises a couple of interesting points.

Does anyone know if the seals are available.  (A quick google search didn't help me.)
and
The powdercoater was concerned about the heat damaging the seals.  Those halogens could very easily get close to the oven temps.

Someone on Ebay was selling new "rebuild" kits for those lights.I'll see if I can find them again.I just kind of let it go because I have Hella lights.

Thanks for the link, Vinnie.

I found a couple of busted housings.  They're going to run them through the oven to see what happens with the gaskets.  We'll go from there.

What do you mean "run them through the oven"?

... but I can't find it.

I'm getting all the metal trim powdercoated.  That process involves heat curing the paint, IIRC they said around 400*F.
