A Dream Build...

78-84ish Ford Fairmont/Mercury Zephyr 2 door
3.0/3.2 SHO motor forged internals
Turbo or SC
narrowed Ford 9"
Tubbed/back halfed
5lug swap
cage
Fox Stang T-Top roof (best part of the dream)
Coilovers

Still in the air about having all the comfort items or not.
Kind of thinking about swapping some 85-86 Cougar tails into it.

Not all the way planned but rough idea. Something a little different.

Here is one with an LTD nose. Might be on the list too

Why waste a high-winding SHO motor on a car with a tubbed 9" rear?

big block  power or big cubes in small block 351W what could be better to do:burnout: ?? .

i tryed  to put the LTDII front end on my bright blue fairmont but it need the different rad sapport /two inner fenders to get LTDII fenders to  fit, so i put the fairmont front back on.

i like the zephyr better than fairmont because the merc has better fins in fender and gril. like below

but i like wagon better yet;

wish i cound find the  fairmont/zephyer pickup(durango?) to complete the collection.
remember it easier to fix them, than to find them after they been crushed.

I was looking for a Fairmont when I ended up with my t-bird. The neighbor has a Farimont wasting away in their driveway (along with a few other cars) and they had no desire to sell it. s!!
Whoa, that was fun!

I agree, I like the Zephyr grill better than the Fairmont Futura grill. I do like the two headlight Fairmont grill though. I was gonna buy a '79 Zephyr ES 4 door with a 2.3 auto, but I ended up getting the Cobra motor instead. :hick:

drive me nuts too.
casper did that for 12 yrs at a guys house. I didn't know it was still on the car ramps until I went to look under it. the ramps only where sticking out of the mud about 6 inches .

for some reason i'm closer to my zephyr than myturbobird our mustangs.

The Durango was an '81 only deal.  They used a fiberglass "tub" for the bed.  That might be an early conversion, or a one-off.

THIS is a REAL Durango

(The only pics I had at work).

This was a car I seriously thought about buying after I sold the Ranger.
ALL "factory" Durangos were 200 I6/Autos
