What is the **proper** way to remove a speedo needle?

Title says it all.  I've got one to practice on if necessary, but I'd rather not break anything.

Okay, thanks.

I tugged a little but nothing happened [insert appropriate smiley here], and figured I'd break something.

I know the feeling,, i was doing the same thing wondering if there was a microscopic allen screw or something im missing.  Then it occured to me that would take a lot of time,, cant imagine the assembly line held up by folks trying to install this invisible screw.

of course, put the fork on far enough so your rocking on the curved portion of the fork rather than digging the tips into your gauge face

I usually mumble those exact words while working on any car project.
