87 Xr-7 5.0

Well, I'm not sure what to do with my Coug now.  I don't have the tim eor money to throw at the car right now.  I may part it out, but if anyone wants it whole I would rather sell it that way.  The car still runs and drives, but will need work.  It has the original 5.0 with 267,000 miles, never opened up!!  Runs fine still, but leaks oil bad!!  The main drain plug in the oil pan stripped out when my brother in law had it, he welded in a piggyback plug (don't ask why, I have no idea).  The little plug stripped out on me, so I have been putting JB Weld on the plug, and silicon when I change the oil, still drips from there, but thats nothing compared to the front seal....The AOD is obviously floor shift being it's an XR7, and still shifts beautifully.  The car has seen alot of quartermile time, my sister in law raced it, as well as myself.  It was running consistant 16.30's last year (pretty nice for 266,000 miles!!).  There are alot of new parts on it, but the main reason we are not driving the car now is the brakes need replaced, as well as front suspension.  Still goes down the road ok, and stops great, but the rotors are shot, my brother in law let the rear brakes go and the rivets dug into the drums.....  Shoes were replaced, but the drums were not turned!!!!  Now the shoes have worn into the drums.....  They are the big 10 inchers that came on the XR7.  It also has the big sway bars, and quad rear suspension.  the rear is the 7.5 posi with 2.73 gears.  Leather interior with power driver seat, rear armrest that folds down, power everything.  The car is the two tone marron with grey rockers (like the car in the header at the top of the page) Grey and charcoal two tone interior.  There is a CD Player with 6 Boston Accoustic speakers, and a 600 watt amp.  (If I part the cat out, I keep these, buy it whole they can stay).  The first tear in the seat just happened about a month ago.  This car was garaged most of it's life.  There is one surface rust spot by the right side quarter window (hasn't changed in 5 years).

I also have 99% of the stuff to convert theis car to HO speed density.  I got the parts from a 1987 Mustang Cop Car.  I also have the 351W lower EFI manifold if anyone is interested in that stuff as well.  Here's the parts I have for the conversion:
351W EFI Lower
302/351 HO upper. (60mm TB and EGR are on the car now)
E7T heads
HO cam and roller lifter
87 Cop computer
mustang headers (factory)
19lb injectors/ fuel rail

I can also get the 11 mustang front spindles, rotors and calipers from my father in law.  The car currently has a set of 5 star wheels (15x8) with 225/50/15 front, and 265/50/15 rear tires, fronts are OK, rears are less than a year old with about 65% tread left.  I would like to keep these wheels and tires, but for an extra cost you can have these to.  Otherwise the car will come with 5 of the 14 8 hole t-bird wheels with OK tires. and 2 extra center caps.

I'm sure I missed stuff even with the long winded post, but email me with any questions, or post them here.

The car with t-bird rims  $400
with 5 star rims              $550
with HO conversion parts and 11 inch brakes (not installed)  $650

I was ready to drive the car from Washington state to Arizona for school, so there is alot of trust in the car, but now with the front suspension acting wierd I would still do it, but with more caution (clunks real bad when stopping hard).  If you want to drive it that far, I would suggest taking it easy and take plenty of oil for the leaker.....

Oh yeah, the car is in Shelton Washington (Olympia area)

Thanks!!!

I may start parting it out in a month or so.  Let me know if you need any parts, I also still have some parts from my 83 thunderbird I can sell, or throw in with the deal for anyone who want the car....

Give me about a week to see if there is any interest in the car with the HO parts, then I'll start selling that stuff off.  I'll start getting prices together on on that as well.  Thanks!!

What might you have left from the '83 T-bird?

I know I have the hood, trunk lid, both doors with power locks and mirrors, grill, one headlight bezel (forgot which side, it's in the barn) double hump transmission crossmember.  I think I still have the front seats with nice covers on them.  The car had an interior I never saw before.  It was velour seat (or something like it) with the thunderbird logo embossed in the covering.  Front and rear seats were like that.  I had all the grey interior that matched, but gave the rest to my father in law for his 84 bird.  I may have some more stuff, what are you looking for?

I just ran up to the barn, the headlight bezel is driver side with marker light.

I also have the big rear swap bar, and 2 Mustang 10 hole 15 inch wheels (they were used as rears for burnout contest)

I also have the washer resivoir, and coolant overflow tanks from a 84 3.8 bird (that was converted to a 5.0 carb set up using a 88 LSC HO Roller engine).

FordFox, I'd take $60 for the lower manifold

Shame302, For the heads, HO upper with throttle body, egr spacer, fuel rail with regulator and injectors, HO rolller cam, lifters, and distributor and the computer to match  (all this from the 87 Mustang Cop Car), I'd say $100

I'll sell the stuff now if needed rather than waiting, getting short on coin, so off it goes.

Oh yeah, the cougar now sports a Powerdyne PowerPlate (throttle body spacer).  I just put that on about a month ago.  Got about 3 mpg better fule economy.

Does that thing have a provision for the egr valve?

you still use the original EGR spacer, the Powerdyne spacer goes between the throttle body, and the EGR spacer.  The kit come with bolts and gaskets.  The bolts I got with my kit were about 1/4 too long and bottomed out, so I used an extra washer, and a lock washer.  They don't actually make a kit for the 50mm throttle bodys, I have a 60mm throttle body and EGR spacer on the car so I used a Mustang Powerplate.

So if I understand right, you get new studs for the upper intake for everything to assemble onto, along with the gaskets and such? Could it go after the egr plate or does it work better in the throtlebody/plate/spacer setup? And last but not least is the plate compatible with a 65mm setup (like the actual size of the opening of the plate)?

You actually get bolts for it not studs (cheaper for them I guess).  Never thought about using it after the EGR (between EGR and the upper plenum), it should work fine that way too.  The ones they have are a 60mm opening.  it would probably bolt up with your 65mm, but would restrict the flow, I don't think I would suggest it.

Biscay, specifically I'm looking for the trim piece from the center where the radio and heater controls are, but only if it has a.) Warning lights at the top and b.) a cutout for a new-style radio (not the 2- kind).  Other than that I need the power mirrors too.  Do you know if they're in working condition?

Oh, a side note.  The '83 was probably a Heritage, they had the cool embossing in the seats.

The center piece is for the non  stereo, but there are no warning lights in it.  The car has the full digital dash.

Heritage rings a bell for some reason.....  is there an emblem or something that would have stated that as well?  where would it have been.  I like those seat covers, I'm ready to toss the seats, but only after I pull the covers off.  I may even just slide those onto my chair in the office... something different lol  Thanks for the little tid bit of info.
