Springs December 02, 2008, 12:45:21 PM I know its recommended to put v8 springs into a bird or cat once you swap from a v6 to the v8 but is it required? I'm about to finish my engine swap project and was curious if anyone ever just kept the v6 springs. What new springs can I buy that will work well? I'm not looking for lowering springs or anything, just something comperable to what a v8 car would have, maybe a little bit more "handling enhance".Suggestions? Quote Selected
Springs Reply #1 – December 02, 2008, 04:31:41 PM It may lower it just right,I know v8 demon is selling used fronts. Quote Selected

Springs Reply #4 – December 02, 2008, 06:16:02 PM Fronts....yes rears.....noThe fronts here are Moog part #8598. Keep in mind I've taken a good amount of weight off the front end. You may want the #8600 instead.Rears are stock replacements made by Moog as well. Quote Selected
Springs Reply #5 – December 02, 2008, 06:21:26 PM i should be selling mach 1 springs and possibly struts/shocks shortly, those would be nice but they would lower it much compared to the way it sat stock. Quote Selected
Springs Reply #6 – December 02, 2008, 06:39:55 PM if you keep the v6 springs you will notice that it is really bouncy feeling in the front. I didnt notice the car sit any lower then when the v6 was in there. but it did feel really bouncy. at least that is what it was like in my mustang.mustang parts do interchange. the part numbers are different because the cougar sits just a little taller in the back stock. the whole suspension in my cougar now is out of a 1993 mustang and I have ford b springs for a 1996 mustang installed. it is amazing how much you can interchange. I wouldn't put the Fox Stang rears in a Cougarbird; at least not one you want to keep at stock or near stock ride height.....they have enough sag issues as it is....Here:http://bbb-carb.com/moog_Coil_Springs.htmRear Cougarbird is part #8599Fox Stang is # 8621Mucho Drop-o Quote Selected
Springs Reply #8 – December 02, 2008, 07:18:30 PM could you get away with the mustang springs if you used the che adjustable lower control arms? Quote Selected
Springs Reply #9 – December 03, 2008, 08:29:36 PM It's very common for the front springs to break in these cars. Both of my front springs had the bottom coil broken off and I only had the V6 at that time. I put replacement V8 sport MOOG front springs(can't remember the p/n) and the car handles better than it ever did with the V6 and the old springs. Quote Selected

The Mach 1's lowered the front about 1.5" also. Quote Selected
Springs Reply #11 – December 03, 2008, 10:10:45 PM Is it okay to keep the v6 springs in the rear with the v8 in the car now? Is there a difference. Quote Selected

If so, thats about where my drivers side is sitting now, and the pass side is a 1/2-3/4" higher with no broken springs Quote Selected
Springs Reply #13 – December 05, 2008, 11:48:50 PM V6 and V8 rear springs are the same...unless you decide to put cargo coil springs in the rear :) Quote Selected

My car sat 1/2" higher on the passenger side too so I added a 1/4" spring spacer to the drivers side which added nearly 1/2" & leveled things off nicely. Quote Selected
