Explorer 5.0L cam firing order.

Who knows for sure what the firing order is for the late 90's 5.0L Explorer. I thought it was 15426378 similar to SO and earlier F150. Someone else thought it was 13726548 as in HO. Looking back at a book I have, it isn't clearly written as either. I have an opportunity to get one that I would like to match up with an 86 speed density mustang computer for AOD. But I'm not sure they are compatible. Any advice?

5.0L Explorer motor has same firing order as an HO, my advise is to go with an 87-88 Mustang HO w/ air density PCM (aka computer) for either a manual shift or automatic car. I am doin the same thing to my car as soon as I hunt down a totaled 5.0L Explorer/Mountineer with a good motor.

Would the 86 HO speed density computer for automatic trans be similar or same to the 87-88? Could it not also handle the Explorer cam?

I have the HO computer, cam, injector rail w/ injectors, upper plenum with throttle body all from a 87 Mustang Cop car if your interested.  I got all the stuff to swap my cougar, but decided I'm going full HO from a 89 Mustang so I can use MAF and a SuperCharger.  Make me an offer on all the stuff.  I would rather not split up the set... oh yeah, I also have the roller lifter that go with the cam, and the E7T Heads (also from the Cop Car)

The explorer cam Has less lift than the stock HO cam.  I was the one who asked if it had the old 302 firing order because it has more lift than the SO 5.0.  I had a project in mind.  A guy was sellin an 88 tbird V8 for $550 and my brother needs a new car.  Wanted to do a budget builup and keep the car and extra goodies under $1000 bucks total including the price of the car and see how much better we could get her to run.  The bird got sold a day before we were gonna buy it so he's S.O.L. and has to continue driving that POS 94 Camry.

Thanks for the offer on the parts but I already have a collection going: 86 Mustang AOD computer, 60 mm TB and upper intake, 1.7 roller rockers, HO headers and H-Pipe, and even an old set of E7's I Picked n' Pulled at the wreckers (though I may just stick to the 1.7 rockers and E6's for now). Now looking for a near virgin HO cam or maybe that Explorer cam.
Don't know if the 86 computer will work good with Explorer cam, 60mmTB, and E6 with 1.7 rockers. Ford Racing Hotline says if I go greater than 7 - 8% differerent on manifold vacuum, I may have problems. I figure the 1.7 ratio + Explorer cam will give me comparable intake lift to HO cam + 1.6 (.448 vs .444) but quite a bit more on exhaust (.472 vs .444). No feedback on what to expect so far.
Any experience with the 86 computer vs 87-88?

The '86 HO had the E6 heads, it will be fine. I used 1.7s and a 2 1/2" cat back system on a 5 speed '86 GT, ran great... When I later converted it to Mass Air it didn't run as strong(lost .2 in the 1/4). Wound up converting it back to SD, as I didn't make any more mods to the engine.

TurboCoupe50...were you able to use your stock HO valve covers with your 1.7 rockers? What did you have to do and what kind of rockers are they?
