Interior light issues

OK, well I haven't had time to dig into it, but I noticed and odd issue with the interior lights on the '83 the last couple days I was driving it.

I walked back into the garage a couple hours after I had parked it and noticed the lights on the rear of the center console were still on.  These normally just come on when the door opens IIRC.
I opened the door and they got brighter and when I depressed the switch in the door jam, they just got dimmer and did not go out. Hrmm...

Messing with the light switch, when I turned it to "ON" for the interior lights, the front floor lights come on and off, but the dome light did not, and it was working before.  The switch had no effect on the rear console lights.

I haven't checked the dome light to see if it has power or not and whether the bulb is just bad or if it's something deeper.

For now I just unplugged the console lights until I get a chance to mess with it, but I want to try and sort it out.

I don't have any other odd electrical issues, so it may just be isolated to the lighting circuit(s).  Bad switch perhaps? Does the power for the console lights run through the light switch, or is it separate?  Like I said, I haven't had time to dig into it yet, but just seeing if anyone has had a similar issue.

IIRC, there are a couple of different fuses that support the same lamps in the vehicle.  I'd check the fused supporting those circuits first, and then go on to tracing the wires themselves.

For example,

This has nothing to do with lighting but is a good example of how things can go screwy if they are tied together.

One day I noticed that the door ajar light in my systems sentry in the 88 was partially lit.  I thought that odd, since the doors were all closed.  I thought it may have been a problem with the door pin switches.  After hunting around (and noticing that the light went completely out with teh actual door ajar, and no interior lights working)  that somehow my passengers side seat had shorted, causing the circuit breaker to heat up on its own.  No power locks, no remote entry (keypad), no interior lights, no power seats.

After tracing a mile of wires, I disconnected the power seat connector under the passengers side seat and Viola!  Everything else worked again.

I would first check all the fuses underneath the dash, and check to see if all the other power options are working as they should, and then move on from there.  If you have an EVTM, you should be able to see which circuits are fed from multiple fuses in your car.

Just a suggestion.

Oh, and just another point, when this was all happening for me, my c pillar lights would not turn off, with the switch on the console or otherwise.  I could use the dimmer switch and turn on the floor lights, but the dome would stay off and the pillar lights would stay on. I just remembered that.

Is this the light you are talking about? If so maybe the switch in front of the ashtray is bad.
I only have 84 documentation. I can't find these rear courtesy lights in the 84 EVTM.

Soft touch.  Yes, those are them.  I have an EVTM, etc.  Just haven't had the time to mess with it yet.  Was OoT for 4 days and now I'm feeling like ...

I'll check that switch out.  I don't remember one being there though.
