Tropical Storm Ike in the Great Midwest.

Maybe some of you who are older than me (About 5 or 6 of you) have seen a tropical storm in our area, but I know I never have. Sustained winds over 40+, and gust in the 70 mph mark - Cat 1 hurricane conditions in SW, Ohio. Woosh. I know Indiana had to recieve allot of this as well. I just got done putting up some fencing, and the one piece that was damaged saved my shed. At least 4 people dead in our area alone from the winds knocking down trees and limbs. I can't imagine what it would be like on the coast with sustained winds in just a catagory 1. No thank you.

Hoping everyone else came through this ok. Especaily those of you farther west and south.

That last section of fence I put up saved my shed from serious damage. I never would have expected that tree to ever come down. Wow. Pics are linked for those who can handle.

We had gusts of 50+ mph in Grand Island, NY.
Lost power for 2 hrs, which never happens on our road

We get storms like that on a regular basis on the east coast. 40-70 MPH winds are hardly even news here :hick: It was a 70+MPH gust that brought the tree down on the camp earlier this year that I posted pics of.

Ike certainly took an odd path - usually the remnants of tropical storms pass over us, and quite often they're still tropical storms (and occasionally hurricanes) when they hit us. We got 6" of rain (but no wind) with Hannah a week ago. My brother, living in Barrie, ON, is finally experiencing the type of weather we east coasters call a typical fall storm. The really strange thing is that Ike's remnants are actually supposed to strengthen as they head for northern Quebec and Labrador...

Yeah, NS seems to get the remnants of all of the hurricanes - even some that never hit the east coast of the US :) Lucky folks :)

My girlfriend's train (Lake S Limited - she was coming back from Minnesota) was delayed 10 hours due to the train having to pass through flooded areas etc. I was kind of shocked - I was like "huh? Gustav still in the midwest causing floods? whaaa?".

Guess I spoke too soon - it's very windy here (gusts to about 60-70). They weren't forecasting wind, but there it is. The door blew off one of my sheds a few minutes ago. It's all good, though - there's a basketball-sized wasp nest attached to said door. Bet they're pissed off now :hick:

We only had a little rain here in Indy yesterday, but the winds got bad.  Bad enough to knock out power on my side of town for about 3.5 hours.

Wasn't too bad though.

We had about 9 inches of rain here, and a lot of localized flooding; all the gravel roads that bisected creeks were flooded.

The last big rain we had back in June actually shut down the 4 lane highway over west of here for 2 days...I hadn't seen water like that since 1993's mess.

It's looking a lot better today though, gonna go pull the interior out of the Bird while it's sunny and mild, we're supposed to get back in the 80's by weekend.

On a related note...anybody besides me thing the midwest will have a heavy wet winter this year? I bet we have a lot of freezing rain and snow....i bet we do.

Flash flooding here. Almost everything is down now but places flooded here that never flood. overall crazy

im in central ohio and i guess there is like 1.5 million people without power from all the wind and such yesterday. i live in marysville and most of us have power now but some of my friend are still without. there was strong winds all day here yesterday

We lost quite a few trees here, probably 60 mph wind. My lawn is covered with tree parts. Not bad though. I used to live in Fl and have gone thru the Cat 3 & 4 stuff. Luckily we were a few hours to the north back in 92 for Andrew. Anyhow hope everyone in the Texas area is ok

It ranned just enough for Nascar to posspone the reace till Sunday and man was it hot at the track. 400 laps I almost didn't make it through the hole thing.

Hey, saved you an ugly job. :D We're starting to get the wind here too. That should make placing a beam and laying a floor system (with no roof) a fun job after work. We ripped the roof off of my brothers place (bought an old house and is adding a storey before moving in) on Saturday, so at least we got that out of the way before the big windshiznit.
