AXLE QUESTIONS, AGAIN... i want stock!

i am fairly new to the forums but am familiar and did search extensively (as i am able) to find this info before opening a new thread.  what my dilema is, is that i am looking for a set of STOCK, yes the 4 lug axles for my cougar.  i have relocatable bearing on them now and im taking a trip to florida in about 2 weeks.  i have searched hi and low for these and cant seem to find.  i guess this is a discontinued part from ford as well.  i no one knows of a source for stock axles what info do i need to give to Moser to get a set made?  oh this would probably help...it is an 88' XR-7 with an 8.8 3.08 trac lock rear. 28 spline  any help would be appreciated!!  thanks in advance

the 88 xr-7 used the same axels as the mustang or so I belive. I'll find a chart for you in a minute.

it under a sticky in the drivetrain section. Good luck.

P.S., now might be a good time to go 5 lug...

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

there is a ton of 308 axles out there ,, shouldnt be that hard to find either.
IT may be a haul but if you drive down towards mechanicsburg on 81s, there is a place called "harrys U-Pull it".

Are you in the Gated "LOCK HAVEN" community?
Ive been there, did up verizons switch in the hut a ways just past the guard shack.  Nice place.

Tell them you need an axle for 4 lug drums in 94-98 length.

i really dont want to do the 5 lug switch now, leaving for florida in 2 weeks.  also i have the color matched wheels and i think they kinda look cool.    on that sticky, i dont see anything that lists an 8.8 for my year car.  am i reading over this?

as far as the gated Lock Haven community, i have never heard of it.  we live on the outskirts of lock haven, up 664 in Woodland Heights.

Your 88 XR7 has an 8.8" rear, but its axle shafts are interchangeable with any 86-88 T-Bird or Cougar, 8.8 or 7.5" rear, including Turbo Coupes. Fox Mustang axles are too short, SN95 are 5-lug.

The last time I tried to buy a new axle was around 1998 (for my old '88 Cougar), and they were rare and expensive then. Ford quoted me $800/side!!! I ended up finding a good pair of used shafts. You may end up in the same boat, especially as my experience was ten years ago so axles are likely rarer and more expensive now.

You might also try having your existing axles sleeved, if it's not really, REALLY worn. A hardened sleeve is placed over the worn spot and the new bearing rides on that sleeve. I've never had it done myself but I've heard a lot of good things about the procedure...

A new set from Moser is $250 FWIW and the metal used is of higher strength.

Negative....I can't think of any FoMoCo vehicle that had the 3.8 v6 AND an 8.8 rear from the factory except the supercharged MN-12's and those are IRS.
