rear swaybar squeak

I've had rear squeak for years, and finally isolated it to the rear swaybar itself.  The noise got worse when I switched to a Cobra bar, got better when I boxed the rear control arms and before that...anytime it rained a lot.

The noise is almost gone after reinstalling the bar with the boxed arms, but its still there...and I'm expecting it will get worse after a few thousand miles.

Any advice?

I'd be interested too, because my front sway bar squeeks like crazy:punchballs:

Check the bushings on the end links and the "D" bushings on the body. Odds are that's your problem.

Since you mentioned it, I'm wondering if adding a hunk of rubber between the bar and the control arm would fix my problem. :hick:

I know its the D bushings on the frame because it only does it when both sides of the sway bar move, but I cant check it while its sitting there because the front is so stiff, I cant get it to move, lol.  I think all it needs is a little silicone or something worked in there, but I will probably be upgrading the sway bars soon for autox

Frickin sweet pictures!


I have the stock TC/XR-7 front bar with a 1994 Cobra rear bar (solid 1", comes from Maximum Motorsports) and I like how flat it corners.  It might oversteer too much for the track (don't know until I try) because the front bar is probably metal fatigued, but this is a great combo overall. I'll either get a NEW stock bar, or tinker with air pressures when I hit the next autox.
