4:10 or 3:73

OK so I want to do my rear now, I have a T/C rear that I’m going to be putting it in. The question is do I put in the FRPP 3.73 or buy 4.10. The $200 dollars is not the question cause I now ill get flak about that. The question is how much better is the 4.10s over the 3.73s I’m talking 0-60 times and ¼ mile times. I have very little drag racing experience so I’m asking those w/real track experience. All can comment just if you’re not sure just state it’s your honest opinion. I’m still leaning toward the 4.10 from what I read in the past and mustang articles stating auto transmissions run the best w/4.10.
But what I’m looking to hear is that my improvement will be too little and if that, how little, so I could weigh my final decision.
If and one needs to know what mods I have w/my car heres the link.

4.10 are for wimps... You need at least 4.30s :D

Seriously, if it's mostly a street car, you'll probably not be able to tell the difference between the two with the assometer, but the 4:10s will give better ETs in the quarter... Don't forget the torque converter, a good gear helps more on the top end, the converter launches the car...

Probably the best reason to go with the 4.10s??? The engine RPMs will be high enough at 40MPH and above, so you'll not have to deal with the dreaded ler drone...

well it  depends on what you have for engine and tranny plus tire size?
with stock heads on a small block  & c-4 and 245/50/16 drag radials my 86 like the 3.73 best. when i installed aftermarket heads, the 4.10 work better.
when i installed the 5speed manaul tranny first gear is usless with the 4.10 gears. that where i'm at right now.

if your running a 2.3 then step up to the 4.10.
i also have svo powered turbo 86bird  with  AOD&3.73 now. work great on the streat but wish it had the 4.10 for when I'M on the strip.
remember it easier to fix them, than to find them after they been crushed.

4.10 over a 3.73 w/an automatic on the Drag Strip.  Of course, getting it launch hard enough to take advantage of the gear will be a strip oriented suspension, sticky tires and the right torque converter.

I enjoyed my 3.73 with the aod,It was about 2000 rpm over my 3.45 cruisin,Like said above with the t5 it's a little waste full.
If your more for the road, not the track I would stick with the 3.73,

I dont think you would really be able to tell overall... I've driven in a couple of cars with both and I couldn't tell. I would just keep the 3.73's if it were me, but if your gonna spurge, might as well.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

If it was me, I would keep the 3.73s. If you were purchasing gears either way, then I would say go with 4.11s with the AOD for sure. But, since you already have the 3.73s just go with it. Use the money on something else.

In my opinion, 3.73 for T-5, 3.90 for T-56, 4.11 for Aod. I'm leaning towards 3.90s for my car, just had 3.55s already so I thought I'd just give them a try before I spent any cash.

Thanks guys
But just say the car runs a 13.7 1/4 with 3:73 what would be the approximate ET gain going with 4:10s. And same for the 60 foot launch. I know tough question and I never ran my car before I just threw that 1/4 # out there.
If it’s not going to me that drastic ill stay with the 3:73 since it’s mostly a street car I just want to do this once while it’s out and before it’s installed.

2nd Question what should I do with the ford posi unit or traction unit rebuild it or go aftermarket. Any recommendations how about a locker.
