Bad surge

When I launch hard or if I take a corner a little too fast without a  near full tank of gas the car surges something fierce.  the launches especially it'll go good for a second then its like i take my foot off the throttle, then it comes back on again, then dies out again.  I have gotten it to surge like that about 4-5 times once.  i'm thinking its a fuel issue because when the tank is full it works fine.  Any ideas??

Pump going bad? Perhaps the sock fell off the pump pick up?

thunderjet, YOU started that thread....

Yes but I only had that problem AFTER the HO swap. :hick:

With the old 5.0 SO (which he still has) I could run with 3 gallons of gas and floor the throttle with no stalling. This was with 3.73 gears, 2.25 duals, and a HO upper and TB. The SO doesn't have enough power to cause the full throttle stall that I experience with the HO

The only time I ever had a problem in my old HO powered 'Bird was when the sock fell off the pump.  I noticed it mostly when power-sliding around turns like a jackass...it would die, mid-slide, and then the car would come back to life after it straightened out.  I wouldn't be suprised if 98% of the people experiencing this problem had a fuel pump strainer sloshing around the bottom of their tanks.
