Earl Scheib - experiences, thoughts, etc?

Has anyone ever taken a car to Earl Scheib?  I did a search and found a lot of complaints but they all seem to complain about overspray and that sort of thing.  Basically, people seemed to expect to take a complete car there and have a decent paint job without removing anything themselves.

So, I'm asking if overspray isn't a concern here.  I'm thinking about taking a car there but I will remove all the necessary parts and mask off the rest myself.

If you go with their best package, my question is can they lay paint pretty good or is the orange peel so bad, it will look like someone used a can of Duplicolor?

Anyone done business with them or seen cars painted by them?  I'm going to visit a shop to see for myself but I wanted to put it out here too.

I took my 87LS to Maaco back in 2002 and I removed all the removable stuff and taped the rest.  It turned out pretty good for $300 paint and another $300 to fix all the little dents and dings.  Being that it was black, it was more unforgiving with the orange peel but it wasn't that bad.

The reason I'm not looking at Maaco again is because they seem to do more insurance work.  Earl seems to cater to the "in and out" crowd composed of individual car owners where Maaco seems to cater to insurance companies.  My car kept getting pushed to the side because insurance work takes precedence.  Same thing happened when I had After painted at a professional collision and restoration shop.

when me and my friend used to sell cars we had to get a few painted by them, since they were sorta cheap and local.
on in perticular was a 94 civic ex 2 door that had some pretty bad body damage on it(like busted up rear quarters and such) and super faded paint. it cost $600 to get the dents fixed and resprayed resale red and even though the paintjob to me was a "10 footer" so to speak they did a very good job on fixing the damage. if you didnt know what was damaged you couldnt tell at all. to our suprize they painted the door jambs, under the hood(not all but most of it) and the trunk liner area.
they did all that i three days if i remember correctly(it was a while ago)
the location we had it done at closed down last year so i cant speak for the way they all do buisness but my experiance with the one place wasnt too bad.

You're pretty much on target.  If you do the prep work properly, you can get a good paint job from them.  If they botch shooting it, have them do it again or refund your money. 

Regardless of where you go, check them out first.  Any decent shop will be eager to show you their work.

Maaco did my blue Thunderbird in the banner.I spent $285.00 in and out.I did all the dent repairs,and when I drove up in their driveway,I removed the lights and already had the side trim off.They had it done in 3 days.Nice work,and they gave me a 2 year warranty.For less than $300.00,I couldn't ask for more.I did the door jambs and under the hood and trunk myself.The car was awesome in the sunlight as well.Patriot Blue Pearl.It was a blue with blue metal flake,and looked almost black at night.

I have Maaco paint on my car now... I would never go there. She had it painted in 94 or 96 (have to look at the papers) the hood has dull, drips down the trim. It is coming off all over the roof in little places, yeah it was 12-14 years ago but seriously she got the 2nd to top package. I think they screwed her because she was an older lady (I know the shop she went to did). Just my 2cents but I cant say I have had personal experiance with them.

My dad had his truck painted by them and it turned out really good and 5 years later the paint was still looking. The truck got in a wreck and it is no longer around. He got the 300 dollars paint job.
