Isn't a pump from a carbed 5.0 HO (say early 85?) an in tank setup?

Yes you can. Just use a regulater, like the Holley one, works great. :D

if your starting off with an old bosch in the tank, you have a good start.  Some of the rangers and older model subaru's had a fuel pump on the rail of the car as a secondary.

just tweek it down to about 19psi there about., give or take depending on what you feel is best.

When I ran a carb on my old '86 Cougar, I set the pressure around 8-10 for the holley. Much more than that would lift the needles off thier seats. :D
