Happy Earth Day, Everyone!

And here's a nice little article from Autoweek to help us celebrate:

How green is your ride?

The juicy tidbits:
Quote from: Autoweek
For 11 years, ACEEE has published its Green Book, which ranks vehicles according to a green score, tabulated using "a singular measure that incorporates fuel economy, health-related pollution impacts, global-warming emissions" and other environmental factors. The greenest vehicle for 2008? It isn't the Prius but a Honda Civic, and it's not the Civic Hybrid, either. For the fifth consecutive year, ACEEE's greenest car is the Civic GX, powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).

Oh, snap! You mean the almighty Prius isn't number one at something? Hmmmm...

Quote from: Autoweek
By CNW's assessment, the greenest vehicle available in 2007 was Toyota's Scion xB, followed by the Jeep Wrangler. The Prius ranked 74th, below Land Rover's Range Rover and the Aston Martin DB9.

Nooo...this is sacrilege!!!

Quote from: Autoweek
Ford's F-150 pickup, often cast as a dinosaur of old tech, is built at Ford's new Rouge plant, with its sedum-covered roof to filter rain runoff and convert CO2 through photosynthesis and solar panels that heat the water and provide excess energy for other applications. Estimates rank the F-150's supply, assembly and customer-transportation costs among the lowest in the auto industry and those of the Prius among the highest.

Stop the pain, mommy! Make it go away!

Ahhh...suddenly it's a more beautiful Earth Day. The air smells better already. :D

And I drove to work today in my SUV too.

Now if they could apply that accross the board and give a good selling 4 door sedan that people might actually utter the name of in the same breath as "those two".

Good find;)

Happy Snark Day!

I guess my 21 year old Cougar is pretty green too! I wonder if having "fake" cats will count against me

And to think, I was riding around today with the cutout open.
It's Gumby's fault.

In an "effort" to clean up the environment, The Lone Star State keeps sending me $3K credits towards a new car (only one per) if I crush my Birds.

Now that's a good idea, buy a new car that gets worse gas mileage than a 20+ y.o. car, not to mention dirtier.  Even when they become exempt, they will still be able to pass emissions tests, just like they do now.

Yes, the total carbon footprint of the Prius isn't pretty but it is possible to improve that.  Solar power to recharge the batteries, plus extra battery capacity, and you've got a pretty clean car, despite the initial hit.

Aside from that, the Prius is a step in a different direction.  Electric cars have a lot of performance promise.  Who wouldn't want to have 100% torque capability at any RPM?

Still trying to rid my yard of overgrown trees. 2 down, 4 2 go :hick:

I read about the new Ford plant a few years ago. It's actauly pretty cool what they have done. Of course, you always get to hear about what Toyota is doing.
Does driving my 06' F150 5.4 litre Supercab count as a contributor then?

The company I work for was the Environmental Consultant for the River Rouge makeover. It's pretty neat and odd sitting next to that big ass steel mill.
