Why does this guy's car stutter like that? March 05, 2008, 12:25:30 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HicEU9snPcc&feature=related Im glad I finally happened upon another video of a car that did this. Just as hes about to launch you hear him bring the revs up and hold em. Then he brings em up more and it stutters like crazy. WHAT the hell is that, I only hear it on those built up strip cars. IMO the coolest thing ever it stutters like then just winds the hell out as it launches. But I can't figure out what causes that. Something to with the cam he's got? De-confuse a noobie here plz thanks :hick: Quote Selected
Why does this guy's car stutter like that? Reply #1 – March 05, 2008, 01:40:30 PM There are two things going on there. The transmission is equiped with a trans brake and the ingition has "two-step" rev limiter. Trans brakes are great for drag racing. It allows the trans to be locked in 1st and reverse at the same time. With the "brake" engaged, the engine can rev much higher than on the foot brake (as an example: a converter may stall at 2,500 on the foot brake, but may stall as high as 3,500 or higher on with a trans brake). A trans brake is actived by a switch to a selenoid on the valve body. That switch, typically also acitvates a "Two step" rev limiter. This is how it works. Bring the car up to the line, stage. When both cars are staged, engage the button for the trans brake, floor the gas pedal. The engine revs to the limiter (which is set lower than the usual red line). The "stutter" you are hearing is the rev limiter. The button is released on the last amber bulb and BANG!, the car launches (Hard!). Trans brakes not only allow an automatic to launch as hard as stick shift car, it can also enable them to cut very consistant lights (.00X are very common for experienced drivers). The Caddy is pretty cool! There was one very similar at Pinks All Out at Milan Dragway last summer. It ran 9.90's. It was really something to see! Quote Selected
