So I'm about to get the last few parts needed for the project.  But first, a few questions:

1)  There are two types of motor mounts at autozone, hydraulic and solid.  Which should I get?

2)  When getting my fuel pump (walbro 255lph), should I get just the pump itself or a kit?  http://www.apeusa.com has both flavors.

i would get the kit because you get the fuel sock and some other stuff. which is better than trying to match up your stock fuel sock or one from a parts store.

Get the "Hydraulic"  mounts.Solid will give too much vibration.I personally like it as smooth as possible. It's all about personal taste.

The hydraulic probably won't last long with power, mine didn't.
Chuck w's work great with minimal vibration. I think he's out of them though.

Chuck's mounts are too expensive for me.  So would I just be better off with the solid ones?

The insulator is the same as used on '89-? 3.8 Birds, should be readily avaliable... AFIK it's solid(rubber)and the hydraulic mounts were only used on Turbo Coupes to reduce vibration of the half motor...

The 89-? 3.8 Bird/Coug use the same insulator as the '86-'88 5.0 cars, should be no problem to find... AFIK they are solid rubber and do not transfer vibration(I believe the liquid ones were only used on Turbo Coupes)... Had a set in my Bird since '99, but I have a additional limiter bracket to keep the engine torque from twisting the left side more than 1/4"...

There are also hydraulic versions.

As for the comment about the MN12 3.8 Tbird mounts...so do you mean the whole mount works, or just the insulation?

I got new solid mounts. One from napa, one from pep boys. Both ripped while the engine was just sitting in the car for a couple of months. The car was only driven on the street a handful of times, and it was quite literally around the block. I didn't do any neutral revs, or clutch drops or anything. Did squel the tires once or twice.

When I pulled the motor out when the tranny went out, both my rubbers were broke. And I loosened the bolts on the motor mounts, and was very careful when I started jacking it up. I did not tear them using the engine jack.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Interesting... I've got 3 years on stock type mounts with my current setup.  I have a torque arm from the transmission bellhousing as well though...

A set of Chuck W mounts is waiting for when they are needed....
