snow tires, who's using what

Hello all,

I need to buy a set of snow tires but wanted to know who is using what brand and size. I had a pair from Sears made by Cooper tires (P205-75R15) and a pair from PepBoys made by Cooper tires (P235-75R15). I was thinking about going with P225-60R15 on the front and P275-60R15 on the back. I'm not sure that this would be a good idea.

Yeah..those 275's aren't going to be for poop in the snow.

The narrower the better for snows.

Personally I don't use them and get by with a good set of All-Season tires on the cars that see winter use.

When I was driving my Foxes in the winter, I had good luck with Sumitomo All-season H-rated tires (their V and Z don't rate as well).  I used the Sumitomo HTR H4 on the Zephyr last year and they did very well.  Pricing on 225/60-15 is $63 each at the Tire Rack.  I used them year-round on that car and they did well.

I don't use snow tires any more since I bought the Explorer, but dry-rotting in my shed are a set of P225/60-HR15 Pirelli H-210 Asymmetrico's (I think that's what they're called). Since snow here isn't all that common I opted for a compromise, something that I thought would wear well on cold streets 90% of the time (wet, perhaps, but not snowy or icy) but still give decent traction in snow.

Side question: tirerack.com lists 225/60-16 for Turbo Coupes as the proper tire size, but lists 225/55-16 if you have 16" rims on a standard T-Bird. Anyone know why?

225/60/16 goodyaer Eagle Ultragrip GW3s on stock snowflakes.  You can buy the regular Eagle Ultragrips for around 90-100 per tire. (GW3s are runflats)

Chuck is right.  Regardless of brand; narrow, tall tires make a big difference when driving in snow.
I had good luck with my spoogeho's I don't remember which ones they were though.

i was never a believer in snow tires untill i bought some for the wifes car. even with new tires it sucked in the snow. i bought some michelin x-ice tires for it and now ill gladly swear by them. i was absolutely amazed at how well they work.

Used Eagle Ultragrip GW2's. Theyre from a Michigan State cop car. Got the 4 for $100. I mounted and balanced them.

I have a set of those (235/55/17) on my Stang. I wanted to minus size, but that doesn't work with my future plans.

Quietleaf: I noticed that too. Tirerack's site isn't always right... I have to pick the Mustang GT to get the right size tires to come up. They still have V6 Stang w/ Pony Package as 16-inch wheels.
