Round 2

Ok guys so I had a miss problem
http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=17140
Thought I had it licked, then today on my way home from work some wierd things happened.  First the car was missing like before, at least it feels like a miss acceleration is choppy and at idle it sure seems like one cylinder isnt doing its part.  So I drive on pissed off and then a few blocks later it starts running fine:hick:.  So i do a quick sweep of my guages and my temp gauge is pegged out well over 240.  Its 3 degrees below zero and the car had been running for 3 minutes tops no way it got that hot that fast so I figure I have a bubble in my coolant no biggie my buddy said he bled the coolant after we got my water pump leak fixed well maybe he didnt whatever.  So I get home and take off the rad cap no pressure release or hot coolant.  The radiator is full but the coolant is not hot at all.  Maybe my t-stat is messed up but I replaced it when I did the head swap, so I'm not ready to pull the trigger on that one.

I don't think it would cause your missing problem, but perhaps the temp sending unit bit the bullet?  Normally, though, when that happens, the temp gauge will show much cooler than it is, because the normal failure is increased resistance.  It's possible, though that the wire to the temp sending unit is grounded somewhere, which will peg out the temp gauge.

That said, if that wire is pinched or grounded, it's possible something else is too.  The missing at light throttle screams intake/vacuum leak to me, but that's just my personal experience with my F-150.

The coolant was not hot at all? What else could it be but T-stat? Water pumps don't stop pumping - I've never heard of an air bubble that big!

The wiring for the temp gauge is new I just put an electric one in my a pillar pod and its fine the sender maybe but the wiring is good.  I guess I'll get another t-stat.

Fill the radiator and leave the cap off. Start it up . Does the pump draw the coolent level down in the radiator? If it does fill the radiator and put the cap on before shutting off the engine.
