Worth It? November 30, 2007, 02:29:30 PM I have been into the local junkyard's collector lot quite a few times to pull parts off an 88 XR7 he has out there and every time I walk through the gate there is this red 87-88 Turbocoupe sitting there. So yesterday I called the owner up and asked a few questions, i.e. how much, does it run, do you have the title? He wants $1200 for it I'm sure if I had a little less he'd sell it, the main question I have is should I? The original idea was to buy it take the rear axle and trans out for my cougar, and sell the rest on ebay and sites like this one. But if it runs and I can title it maybe I should save it!? It would need to be stripped and painted, I can't stand red cars especially ones with red interiors like this one, and I haven't gotten a real good look at it yet for rust etc., but I'm stuck I really wanted to get a 98 Mark but if I can get a running TC, provided its in savable shape, I'm seriously considering saving this car. Worth It? Reply #1 – November 30, 2007, 03:05:35 PM If it's in decent shape, run's & has a title, I'd try to save it, providing the funds are available. I found a sweet 87 t/c in a salvage yard last summer, but the guy would'nt sell the whole car. He told me I would have to buy the car piece by piece!! What a dick!! Quote Selected
Worth It? Reply #2 – November 30, 2007, 03:40:21 PM That's how I got my old '88 T-Bird Sport. Saved that one from picking over and the eventual crusher, and I had it for 3-4 years as a daily driver. Ran great. But the price was also a lot better than what you're talking about too. I guess everything depends on everything: rust, what needs fixed, and the owner's willingness to negotiate. I made him put it in writing that the floor shifter is sold to me I just havent pulled it yet :D I might get to check it out tomorrow and will get back to you guys on the condition we have a little snow but hopefully I'll be able to look underneath and check it out. Any problem areas I should look for? Quote Selected
Worth It? Reply #5 – November 30, 2007, 11:10:44 PM You really have to descide if it is worth it to you. All cars end up in the s yard for a reason. Some good and some bad. You may find the body and apperence to be fine, but, you may not find all the bad until you are able to go through it after puchase. It's a chance, only you can decide if it's worth taking it. Worth It? Reply #6 – December 01, 2007, 04:20:15 AM That's a good point. I thought mine was going to be a simple engine swap. Ended up being two month's of fixing & cleaning 20 year's of someone else's neglect. Quote Selected
Worth It? Reply #7 – December 01, 2007, 12:02:53 PM I dont have a problem ripping it all apart and rebuilding it but I'm not messing with too much body work because i can't do it myself, so its really expensive. Quote Selected

Worth It? Reply #9 – December 05, 2007, 12:26:30 AM So the yard called me and told me he found the title. So i went trodging through the snow today to look at it. Not in horrible shape but probibly just a parts car. The rear quarter is a little rusty, right in front of the wheel there is a hole. It is a manual car and the cluster and most of the interior looks to be in pretty good shape. Dash pad and console lid are cracked, of course, but the plastics look pretty good. What would you guys pay for a complete TC donor car. I want the rearend, trans, and pedal assembly. Probibly the hood too but I don't know if the car is worth saving. That said there is no way i'm paying 1200 for it unless I can start it drive it off the yard, very unlikely. Quote Selected
