so I didn't get a good answer. only there's a lot to bringing a car into the US. esp. if its new because you lose the warranty once it leaves the country. so i found the link with the requirements to import a Vehicle into the US.

http://www.foreignborn.com/visas_imm/entering_us/7importingyourcar.htm

I hope this helps you out.
this may be sticky worthy as more import and export info can be added

Here's the process.  You take the car to a Canadian dealer.  They look up the VIN and see if it meets US safety and emissions regulations.  If it does they give you an M compliance letter stating such.  You take the letter to customs at the boarder and thye give you documentation saying that they checked/approved or whatever it is that they do.

You take that customs documentation, the vehicle registration or Canadian title and other documentation required by your state authority and submit it with the application form for a new title and registration.

If your M letter says that it meets the US safety and emissions standards except minor labeling you good to go.  If it says except for  anything more such as safety restraints or emissions equipment, you will have to have a certifed dealer update your car to get it pass.

Digital speedo? Push the E/M button.

Thats what I was thinking. On a digital dash for an 88 just push the button.
