Re: Umm OK....... Reply #1 – February 18, 2005, 12:25:53 PM Yeah I think thats a bit high, ( way high) seeing that k.b.b. say its worth 2,100 in excellent condition :wtf: :giggle: :wtf: :giggle: Quote Selected
Re: Umm OK....... Reply #2 – February 18, 2005, 12:39:12 PM KBB means nothing on old cars that are low mile originals. He might find a buyer at around $5000, though. Quote Selected
Re: Umm OK....... Reply #3 – February 18, 2005, 01:23:22 PM That's a fair price.Try finding another 1988 XR7 with that low mileage. It's practically a brand new car.[shameless plug] Ironic how that also goes along with my latest State of the Cat commentary: http://www.coolcats.net/sotc/sotc38.html [/shameless plug] Quote Selected
Re: Umm OK....... Reply #4 – February 18, 2005, 01:42:25 PM I am not saying the car isn't worth it, I am saying that most people who go buy cars will look at the bluebook value, and question the price of the vehicle being so high. Quote Selected
Re: Umm OK....... Reply #5 – February 18, 2005, 02:17:19 PM It's a 17-year-old car with only 20,000 miles. Any vehicle in that same position should be worth more. Common sense, then, should prevail over any printed book value. Then again, people are people....you can't expect everyone to think that way. Sometimes the train gets stuck in the roundhouse, if you know what I'm saying. Quote Selected
Re: Umm OK....... Reply #6 – February 18, 2005, 02:36:22 PM Very true, but the vehicle is only worth what you can get out of it. Quote Selected
Re: Umm OK....... Reply #7 – February 18, 2005, 03:03:13 PM Not necessarily...it can still be worth more than what someone pays for it. But Jeeves is right. $5G is probably all they'll be able to sell it for. It's still worth $7,500 though, whether they sell it for that price or not. Quite a rare and tempting find. Quote Selected
Re: Umm OK....... Reply #8 – February 18, 2005, 03:08:09 PM How else would you get an XR7 with 20k ORIGINAL miles? As eric said it's like buying a new car, closest you can get. Try and find a newer RWD V8 car with all the features of that car for $7500. Not happening. Quote Selected
Re: Umm OK....... Reply #9 – February 18, 2005, 05:08:49 PM i would have to say its worth every penny the owner asks. I only wonder if the owner knows about our site. Even 5 grand would make me think long and hard. I need ,, i want,, i wish. Quote Selected
Re: Umm OK....... Reply #10 – February 18, 2005, 05:23:17 PM That car has been on there for about 3 months or so. I was watching it to see if the price would drop but it hasn't. Quote Selected
Re: Umm OK....... Reply #11 – February 18, 2005, 11:30:34 PM Much like Eric says in the latest SOTC, value is in the eye of the beholder. my father thought I was nuts for paying $3500 for my 47k-mile, mint, '88 Bird. I could've bought a mid 90's car for that much, after all. He doesn't understand that I don't want a Grand Am, Sunfire, Neon, Taurus or Contour. Hell, I didn't even want an MN12. I knew just what I wanted and I bought it after a lenghtly search. Besides, while my car is 17 years old, it has fewer miles than his 2001 Dodge Ram. Age is not measured in years alone. But on the other hand, I am a rare person. Common on this message board, but rare in the marketplace. Not many people share our love for these cars. Underpowered (but stylish) mid 80's RWD coupes are not in great demand just yet (though I do feel they eventually will be). The partial truth is that the demand will set the value, but I say partial because it depends entirely on how much of a hurry the seller is in as well. The seller of the car in question is in no big hurry, and eventually may get his price. If he was desperate to sell he'd have lowered his price, but in reality he's probably reluctant to sell. Re: Umm OK....... Reply #12 – February 19, 2005, 12:09:42 AM This particular car while very nice and all original is not something I myself would spend 7500 bones on. Why? Because it IS very nice and all original and at this point should remain such. I'd have to modify the motor and tranny at least a little and that would be wrong to do on this particular car. Re: Umm OK....... Reply #13 – February 19, 2005, 01:01:33 AM If I had 7500 bucks, I would have a nice down payment on an 05 GT! Quote Selected
Re: Umm OK....... Reply #14 – February 19, 2005, 01:12:34 PM Speaking of overpriced cars, there's an 85 30th anny T-Bird that just popped up in our local paper. It's only got 8900 original miles, but he's asking $14k for it! Speaking as probably the biggest T-Bird/Cougar fan in Nova Scotia I bet it won't sell at anywhere near that price... I couldn't link to the ad so I took a screenshot: Quote Selected
