94 areostar help

Hello

My 94 awd areostar will not stay in park.  I put it park and it rolls 4-6 feet then locks then it does it again and again.  Any Ideas what it could be.  I know someone must of owned one of these at one time with this problem.

Please I need help.

We had a '92 Aerostar with a column shifter. Something happened with the linkage and we had to pull out the access panel and shift the transmission through the floor.
I can't remember what went wrong, but I suppose it's possible that you're having the same problem.
You may consider pulling the access panel and inspecting the linkage. Perhaps it isn't fully engaging in the park gear.

There are 2 torex head bolts that connect the column shift lever to the linkage. It is normal for one of them to back out and possible fall out making it look as if its in Park but its in Reverse. Or some where in between.

You will have to get your head and one arm under the dash and follow the steering column back. While you are doing that have some one run it thru the gears.

You will more than likely not see it but feel the part moving. This was a constant problem with my 92. If you find thats the problem put some loc-tite on the bolt and tighten it down as hard as you car.

Hello

It turns out its the transfercase thats shot.  Input/output shaft.
$450 used and $550 for install.  $4100 new not installed.
Now what to do?

Is it possible to yank the transfer case driveshaft and make it a RWD van?
If not, I'd go with a used transfer case. The cost of the new one is double what the van is worth.
