Identifying ranger gears?

I`m going to the junkyard tomarrow for ranger axle gears. I want to find 3.73`s and I know some had 3.55`s. How do I tell them apart with the axle numbers?

there were several.  some trucks had the 7.5" and some had the 8.8".  i'm not sure what the combos were, but my 7.5" came with 3.45's.  i know that the 4x4 trucks use the 8.8".  the 7.5" could come with a gear as low as a 2.73.  basically what i'm getting at, is there are several different combos on them.  look at the diff tag... it will tell you every thing you need to know.  happy hunting.

4wd rangers had that along with the explorers and even some aerostar vans had them.

Not all Ranger 4X4s came with 8.8 trac-locs. I just sold a 90 Ranger 4X4 that had the 2.9L V6 5spd and it had the 7.5 w/3:73 gears but didn't have the trac-Loc :( That would have helped in the winter. Look on the axle tag, providing it's still there and if nothing has been changed.

Good luck hunting :D
