Surface mount tweeters up front?

Has anyone tried putting surface mount tweeters on the triangular plastic trim piece on the far front piece of the side windows? Just curious.

I would think it would be a better location than putting a set of tweeters in the stock dash location and having a set of 6.5" in the wall, but I am audioally retarded.

Don't know if it would help, but some of the 96-99 Taurus's (sp?) had tweeters in the location you're wanting to put them in. They "may" be a good source for swapping parts.

I was just driving home thinking this same thing...  Tweeter angle is really important (sound direction becomes less important as frequencies plumit) and in these cars it's definitely less than good...

Unfortunately, while I DID have this thought, I don't have much money to buy all the toys...

I put some there in the 93 tempo I had. I sunk them into the plastic piece. The tempo ones are thicker than the bird/coug ones.

Looks like I'd have to make a fiberglass housing to make it look good.

I took a couple pics of the tweeter setup that I suggested from the Taurus. Also got some measurements of approximately 6 3/4" wide and 6 1/2" tall. Hopefully this would help in deciding whether or not this would work for an all-in-one, clean install solution.

Taurus tweeters look good because they have atleast some angle...  fitment thought, who knows.  I'd like to see it though...

not to dis, but I wouldn't recommend carpimps setup if you want to get the most/best sound quality out of your components.  it's very important that the tweeters point right at you (in the studio, we always make sure the tweeters in our monitors are at ear level and that each side points right at the corresponding ear to maximize the 'sweet spot')  If you want best sound imaging for BOTH seats, I'd get a tweeter that has an 'eyeball' type setup so you can change the angle and point them so their line of sound would meet at average ear level above the center console...  best for drivers seat only (passenger would still be fine), point each tweeter at the corresponding ear...

that'd be sweet...  I'm big into factory looking stuff (but upgraded) and I've always wanted to put a mach 460 system in my 'bird.

I got to thinking when this topic came up, they are in generally the same shape as the access covers for the mirrors, and possibly could be made to work but I'm not sure, but I am sure my mom wouldn't let me try ahaha.

bummer...  that would have been a good experiment.  Maybe some day, if I see these at a JY I'll pick them up - and a set of junk tbird covers.  It'd actually be pretty easy to combine the two - some cutting, custom abs molding, sanding and paint...  maybe I could sell a couple on here as well....?
