cat backs

hey, what are you guys running for tailpipes? from behind the lers back my mustang system doesnt fit at all. it goes over the diff fine but wont go around the tbirds tank. the bends are all wrong. its a stock style lx 2 1/4 system. the passenger side isnt too bad but the drivers side realy sucks. i realized some modification would be needed but i dont realy have the means for cutting, bending and welding....Got any pics? thanks again...john

Mustang shorty headers, Walker Mustang H-pipe (replacing it tomor.... TODAY, rattling like a bugger), then Mustang flow pipes to reducers to stock T-Bird lers to stock T-bird tailpipes. Doesn't sound like I wanted (no Mustang rumble or T-Bird quietness) but everything bolts straight in now, as all parts are "off the shelf".

I could probably cut the tailpipes near the end and graft on some shiny Mustang tips, or maybe some long straight tips like a Monte Carlo SS (oops, that's another thread).

Stock 88 cougar tailpipes. And Masterblaster reminded me about those, so did anyone ever try those monte tailpipes?

I've always used 2 1/2", Mustang pipes lengthened. :dunno:

Stock 88 cougar tailpipes.

why, are they different/bigger than the tbirds?

well, the headers, h pipe, flow tubes and lers fit nicely. the bends in the mustang tail pipes get it over the axle fine but are all wrong for the gas tank. i did some cutting and tackwelding and finally after messing around with them they fit. i was going to cut the 2" tbird tail pipes after they make the bend past the tank and expand to the bigger pipe but i thought that idea would be a last resort. anyway, all i have to finnish is the passenger side. should be okay. thanks for the replys...john

my Mustang tails fit fine, just needed some coaxing to get them in the right place. I later had a ler shop weld everything up after getting my h-pipe, and he put them where they should have been. only problem I've run into has been the hanger welds breaking

No they are the same. But I only have a 3.8 and saw no need for anything bigger than 2" pipes.
