old school ??

alright guy's lets see what we get!!, this is what i got,, 57 bird with original rebuilt 292 y block, duel exhaust, misses on one bank (drive side), new plugs, wires, cap, timing chain (timing is dead on),compression check( 130 avg.-held for 5,6 min.no leak down)checked valve springs, every cam lobe lift (solid lifters),manifold runners(clear), new carb, swaped plugs from left to right bank (no change), i need some clues on what to try next, i'm stumped!!!      thanks :dunno:

Intake gasket leak?  Does it miss at idle and under power?  How about at cruise?

I had a 292 in my 62 Merc I sold last year.  Purred like a kitten though (ok..more of a grumble through the dual Flowmasters :p)

Are u sure its a miss?  Have had a few people thing they have a miss and it turns out to be a Exs leak.

What is the car doing that makes u think u have a Miss?

pretty sure ut's a miss, sputters through the drive side pipe, and yes it misses at idle and under load, when in gear it seems to wanna bog down a tad as if it's not fireing on all cylinders, pass. side purrs through the pipe, just the right side sputters, pulled one plug wire at a time on drive side to see if i could pin point a cylinder but no luck.  thanks again

maybe u have 2 wires crossed on that side,
Not blaming u but if u just got this car who worked on it b4 u might have make this mistake and it has cared over to u.

U can also try pulling one plug off at a time to see if u can find witch one is missing.

i tried pulling one wire off at a time but no luck!! also after 4-5 total revolutions it wants to spit back through the carb, and if i put it in gear after a min. or so it wants to die, it's got us stumped. yea the car is a customers and it was worked on before we got it, but we have been checking everything that we know. checked for intake leaks(none),if it was a burnt valve(or related) the comp test would have shown that right? i will double check the firing order to make sure it's right, any more suggestions would be thankful.  thanks again for the replys

Sir you have a flat cam lobe, or it is almost flat.  I had a Chitty 307 once that ran like a raped monkey but it always seemed to miss at idle.  Pulled the engine out of the nova to swap in the 350 so i pulled the 307's cam.  Sure enough the back two lobes were smaller than the others.  A compression test will not tell you if the cams lobes are worn badly.  It might show up if there not opening at all.  Also on my cougar when I do a compression test I get 160Psi on all cylinders.  All pump up asap except the right rear cylinder.  It has a sticking valve.  It takes twice the cranking to get it to pump up.  It will act up at idle sometimes, kinda chugs then quits and purrs like a kitten.  Pull your valve covers off and crank the engine with the coil wire off and watch the rockers.  You might just see one or two that don't move as much as the others.
