From what I know there were about 5 NYAS 20ths. There is NY SHOW stamped on the radiator core tag for those cars. Aside from the gold-rimmed logo and grille and that tag, I know of no other differences vs. a standard 20th.

what about the short wheel base MN12's?

From the information that I have, there were 5. They were started by a company in Missouri. Plans were to make many copies but in the end only 5 were completed. Four of them went to sale to the public, with the owner retaining one. One of the public ones got wrecked autocrossing several years back. That leaves 3 public SWB Thunderbirds that exist...and 2 of them are in Cleveland, OH.  those Ohio cars, right? ;)

The black 1990-ish Cougar XR7 that was at CJ07...the woman that arrived at the park late, with two kids...Connie, I believe is her name...her husband has one of the SWB SC's. I've seen it in real life; it's a bright blue coloUr. I was prodding him to bring it to CJ but he kind of brushed me off. Later I found out that he didn't want to admit it, but he did a number on the motor and yanked it without having a replacement engine ready. So that's why it wasn't at CJ. Maybe next year...

Anyway, the SWB's look kinda funky but they are cool in their own way. I understand the handling is much better vs. a standard MN12 wheelbase...and that's saying something, considering they already handle very well for such hefty cars. Normally I would cringe knowing that a car was cut completely in half, a section removed, and then welded back together. But I'm assured that all the welding was top notch and there are no ill effects from the surgery. It's a novel car, that's for sure.

I'm sorry. I musta read the original post wrong. I thought this was about what is the rarest of the rare. Not the best looking/ best optioned/ personal favorite. Evidently there are a few one offs from the factory or special officially licenced post-production conversions. In any event, one of a kind is as rare as it gets. Any less would be non-existant, any more would be less rare. Doesn't matter what personal tastes you have, one-of-a-kind is just that.

LOL...yeah...until you see it.

"Special" (education) options on the only 20th convertible:

- Stand up gold hood ornament on the header panel (like the '83), with the emblem the exact same size as the emblem in the grille. Class.
- Thick gold pinstriping running the length of the car, broken only on the door with "SPECIAL EDITION" letters in what has to be the "classiest" font ever, Brush Script. Yes, it's "fancy"!

And the coup de gras:

- The Continental kit out back.

Now...do you still want it? ;)

WAAAAAA!!!!!! :(  Man, that was what I TOTALLY lusted after once I read about it on coolcats. I couldnt believe it, ONE guy wanted his 20th to be a ragtop and had it done, and to boot has put like 50 miles on it or something? LOL. But that just ruins it.

The 20th annys only got Memory Seats? !!!! I had no idea about that! I always have been fond of that, my moms 02 explorer has it, and look at me mom, so do I!!! And interestingly, the panel looks the same. Same set and 1, 2 buttons. Kinda creepy!

Now, Eric, I just GOTTA ask.......................does this guy's 20th Convertible have........WHITEWALLS!!!!???? :barf:  If not Ima be real disappointed.........
1987 20th Anniversary Cougar, 302 "5.0" GT-40 heads (F3ZE '93 Cobra) and TMoss Ported H.O. intake, H.O. camshaft
2.5" Duals, no cats, Flowmaster 40s, Richmond 3.73s w/ Trac-Lok, maxed out Baumann shift kit, 3000 RPM Dirty Dog non-lock TC
Aside from the Mustang crinkle headers, still looks like it's only 150 HP...
1988 Black XR7 Trick Flow top end, Tremec 3550
1988 Black XR7 Procharger P600B intercooled, Edelbrock Performer non-RPM heads, GT40 intake AOD, 13 PSI @5000 RPM. 93 octane

Speaking of auto show cars, here are pictures of a 1986 Turbo Coupe that was used on display at the Toronto Auto Show.

Brent: VERY nice! Any info on that?

Zonda: I don't recall if there were whitewalls or not. Whatever was factory (which I think was blackwalls), it still had the factory tires. The car has been on and off trailers its whole life, just to and from shows and whatnot. The original owner said he drove it around the block once a year, never more than that, just to get it warmed up and "keep the seals in good shape". I don't know whatever happened to the car...the original owner was, at one point, on Team Mustang within Ford. I last spoke with him in 1999. The car was at an all-Ford swap meet for sale in the mid-1990's; that's where I saw it in person. Far as I know it never sold. It was unique, that's for sure. Taste...that's another thing altogether. ;)

He stopped by the NATO site a few years ago looking for info on his car because of the stamping on the tag. Here is a link to his site with some more information on his car.

I'm going to say the 20th's..  Super cool cars, one year only and way more than a flashy red paint job.

The '83 Heritage is a one model year car also, with some of the more desirable options, keyless entry, vent windows, and factory alarm just to name a few.

My car *was* fairly loaded, but it's was technacaly a 2 year thing. I haven't seen many 85's ( 2 so far) but the 84's are out there
