2.3l turbo questions

which motor has the flat pistons from factory. and i am building a motor for my tc its 60 over with speed pro flat tops how much power will it add i have a t-3 a/r 60 a/r 63 for now?

Flat tops are a BAD idea in a 2.3, especially considering Speed Pro doesn't make forged ones for the 2.3! PM me.

n/a versions of the 2.3 have flattops.

Remeber raising the compression raises octane demand resulting in less boost per fuel octane.

a friends car had the flat tops in it and it felt fine on pump gas and the motor i just tore down had a set in them too the pistons i have i h435p i looked them up and they say that they were buick turbo pistons . they have the letter F stamped on them in two different spots

factory turbo buick pistons are cast just trying to save you a tuning headache  9:1 motors work alright but like i said the timing curve and fuel will need to be compensated when you are at stock or above boost levels.

i have 650cc inj. and a 255 fuel pump i want to race the car i am in the process of getting a 456 gear. im going from dsm to these so i dont know these cars 100% yet

Flat tops are not a "bad" idea IF you have the ability to tune the engine.

Actually I beat the dog snot out of 9.0:1 compression engine (BV ported head, cam, no IC, 16-17# boost, 13-14* timing, no KS, gutted intake, PC-1 ECU) and never had a problem.  The car ran like a scalded ape. 

Now the .060" over bore IS a bad idea on a 2.3 block.  If you have to go that far with it, find another.

they say 60 over on the piston and the machine shop bored each cylinder to the pistons 1-4

i already had the pistons for the block . whats wrong with that bore

That is too much bore for a motor you're planning on beating on. 

Sorry, but you just wasted money.

The max for these motors is about .040 and even them they need to be sonic-checked before and after.

So you're running a flat-top, hypereutectic piston at 3.8395 (a .545 overbore) for a Buick motor? It's not hard to get the correct pistons for these motors, so I'm at a loss as to why you would do that.

THIS is what happens to flat-top hypers in a turbo motor.

Just curious..... why would you put boost to a plastic piston? it's bad enough when youre putting bost to a cast piston. Using hyperutectic pistons in a boosted application is just asking for rapid disassembly without the use of tools.. IMHO. Nice pics though.

I didn't know what pistons the motor had :hick:

I bought the car used and the engine looked factory stock. It looks like a cheesy NAPA/Jasper/whatever rebuilt bottom end with  for pistons and horrible machine work.
