17k is not all that bad

15k is the blue book for the car so I should be able to talk him down to 16k I should have positive equity on the eclipse no problem. Also, I just got about $3,000 to move to Colorado from the military.  I should have no problem financing it. I have good credit. Also, the only major problem with a 3000GT most of the time is the trans. The engine is a champ. I should know, I have the same block in my eclipse - the DOHC.

Base Price$8,275-$9,900-$10,950

where the hell did you find that, a VR4 base price Was $45,000!

Don't be too disappointed when the 3000GT breaks, either...cuz it'll happen.

Every car WILL break.

Trust me, I have done enough research on the car before considering it. I am not going to go by what happens to your one friend. There is a whole forum of people who have had their 3000GTs and Stealths for years and put many miles on them and they run fine.

Yeah, getting rid of the Eclipse b/c I don't like it. Also, it is FWD and I would rather have AWD.

those are figures for what that car is worth right now not new. use NADA.com as your pricing recorce. not kelly blue book, not edmunds etc. banks and dealers use nada. that car is not worth 15k book. i certainly woulddnt be happy talking him down to a price thats still over what the things worth retail. i would never buy a car for retail anyway. never more than 80%. at least thats how i buy my cars.

there is NO WAY the dealer has more than 7-8 k into it actual cash value into it.

i say good luck financing that because its 12 years old. dont care what the miles are on it. granted the mileage may be your only saving grace on it. you might be able to get a credit union to buy your loan if you have stellar credit and are at least at or under 80% of the value of the car. a mainstream bank likely isnt gonna touch it.

if your not fliped in the eclipse and you got 3 grand down you might be able to pull it off but i personally think youd still be going backwards. i still wouldnt pay out more than 13 acv on that ting though. paying more than its worth is kind of silly...

I forgot that the car is so old, you are right it may be hard to finance. :[

Well, I have always wanted a 3000GT VR4 since they first came out.

check out

http://www.3si.org/wiki/index.php/Ride_of_the_Month

for some examples of how cool these cars really are.

sure they may be heavy

sure they may not be as fast as others in their class

but they are unique, just like my cougar and all of your cars. :]

that is why I like it.

Went to see the car and it is fast!

You are right, they wanted too much for it. I got approved for financing

but they only wanted to give me $4500 for the eclipse!

hahahaha and its in great condition

where as they had the 3000GT wayyy overpriced.

I am going to sell the eclipse and go from there.

Not going to lie.  The pic you posted looks pretty sick.  That was the hardedst part about financing my car, and it's only a 99.  Was finding a bank that would give me the loan.  I finally found a credit union that had no mileage or year restrictions on their auto loans.  I also had no credit, but still managed to get the loan for 6200 with a 13.9%... wich is high, but for a first time loan with no credit, could have been worse.  I've always liked th looks of those cars, and wanted on really badly in high school, they are unique, and can be really fast when done right.  But like Shame said, don't pay more than it is worth.  Hell, you could get a low mileage 01-02 F-body for that kinda cash that would be in great shape.  Not that you should, just saying, since I see them for sale all the time.  Anyhow, good luck with whatever you may do.  And I hope you find/get one that you deserve.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Sounds like a TC. :D

TC's are a very dependable car in my opinion. From my father and me owning one each i haven't had any major problems and neither has he. I know people with supras that have replaced there turbos twice or three times by the time they got to the millage my fathers had.

Hell Kemba (Kemba is krogers credit union) wouldent help me refinance the 99 cougar because they said that i paid too much for it. So i would have to agree with shame on this one, dont get rammed like me. The KBB for the 99 cougar with 100k was 6,200 i paid 10,000 almost 4 g's over what it was worth.

Change of plans!

Looks like I am still selling the Eclipse but today I found another one of my dream cars as a kid the Impreza 2.5 RS! Which is very hard to find these days. Better yet it only has 65k miles! and they only want 9,800 for it.

It's a 2001 the last year of the 2 Door Impreza! OH YEAH! :D :D :D

Also, it is 600 LBS lighter than the Current STI and has the same 2.5 liter boxer engine :] non turbo of course. So I could put an STI engine in. Or just turbo the block I have now, which can handle about 400HP.
