Hood insulation pad May 29, 2007, 04:46:45 PM Well mine looks like . Almost 20 years of underhod heat has pretty much cooked it. I'd like to put a new one in (remember I'm one of thouse crazy people who like to restore these cars to almost factory appearance) but there's no way in hell I'll actualy find one. Does anyone know of some kind of sound deadening material car be cut to the same shape as the old hood pad? Or do some of you know of a place that makes a replacement one? Quote Selected

Hood insulation pad Reply #8 – May 30, 2007, 12:45:30 AM Quote from: thunderjet302;150699Good point. Maybe you just flip it over? Funny, I bought one from the Ebay folks and it was 3/4" thick (way too thick) and stamped so that the uncovered fiberglass side was facing the engine (doh, it's not symmetrical). He was nice and sent me a nice 1/2" piece stamped the correct way. It's not molded, but it sure beats the falling apart stock piece. Quote Selected
Hood insulation pad Reply #9 – May 30, 2007, 10:17:01 AM I may have the underside of mine done with Rhino liner in a color that closely matches the shade I want to paint the car. Quote Selected

It's seems cheap and if I screw up the insulation I can just get a new one. I'll try to take some before and after shots so people know how it looks:D Quote Selected

Hood insulation pad Reply #14 – June 04, 2007, 01:23:54 AM I bought one of those pre-cut ones off of ebay about 3 years ago, I believe. It is cut to fit nicely enough, with the clip holes all in the right places, but it does leave some things to be desired:I experienced the light location problem mention earlier (I have an '87). I just moved the light to the other side of my hood!It is not molded, and is rather flexible and "poofy" looking after all pins are installed. The edges don't have any sort of seem at all, and are not holding up too well in some places - the black covering and fiberglass insulation are "flaking" apart.Though for the price, it is a quick and easy fix, and does dress up the engine bay, imho, compared to the stained, tattered mess my original pad had become.
