Tbird vs S2000.....hmmmmm daboss is right

So yeah, I was at Carl's house tonight helping him get the Cougar to start (which it finally did btw).  I leave out and start heading down the road.  I'm sitting at a stop light when a black Honda S2000 with rims and single exhaust w/a fart can pulls up to me.  I was just thinkin "I'll get my ass handed to me, but I'll mess with the guy a little."  So the light turns green and we both casually start goin, but I just stay right next to the guy until he punches it. I was at his rear quarter panel, floored it, and to my complete surprise, I stayed right on him.  It seemed like after every shift, the S2000 would just die out and let me gain the ground he was pulling once the revvs came up on his car.  I didn't win the race by any means, but I gave the guy hell in a car that costs A LOT less.

On the way home I was thinking "Man there's gotta be something up here...how did my $3,000 car just give a brand new sports car such hell?"  So I got home, hopped on google, and searched for S2000 specs.  I found that even though the car weighs ~300lbs less and has 15 more hp, it only has 162ftlbs; barely more than half of my Tbird's 300ftlbs, which explains why the car just ped out at low rpms.  Needless to say, it was pretty cool to give a car like that hell.  And daboss was right when he said that S2000s dont have much grunt but they do have good top end.

I tore one apart.  At a light late one night, he asked what I had then told me.  He had full bolt ons too.  Header, intake manifold, CAI, catless exhaust, and underdrives.  Off the line I was 3 cars on him almost instantly then it was over once I hit second.  He drove past when i went to turn left and we both waved, he was cool about it which I thought was neat.  It really didn't sound too ricey either, I respect those cars, they really aren't a straight line type vehicle, more of a twisties type car.  Only really technically my 2nd street race.

IN TORQUE WE TRUST.

162 lb-ft. BAH! what a friggin piece of junk. i never actually knew thats all the made until now! but somehow i knew the thing couldnt get away with the horsepower it made without losing some torque.

Yeah I think if I would have shifted through 1st and second and let the Tbird go up to around 5 grand, I coulda pulled up more on the guy.  But it was still fun keeping up with him to about 70-75 mph in a car of 1/10th the price.

Problem with S2000's is they're made to be revved sky-high, and there's not much you can do as far as boltons to make them faster because the engine doesn't leave much on the table from the factory.

Saw an article where they did a header and full exhaust on an S2000 in SCC and gained less than 5 hp.

just for the record s2000's dont have v-tec.  but yeh its a revver.  and yes honda put everything speed already into the stock engine so theres vertually nothing you can do to make real power only on bolt ons.  i've read some articles about 1/4 mile monster s2000's and they all had engine swaps or were heavily mechined and tuned with a power adders (most popular was nitrous, then superchargers).

Wow, the exhaust on that video is super annoying.  Like it's better than the typical fart can exhaust, but that sound should be reserved for real cars only.  Hehe.  Looks pretty quick though, and he seems to have no problem breaking it loose.

That is so totally fake...you can't get that sound unless you have something that revs to well above 10,000 RPM (hence street bikes and F1 cars sounding like that).

Somebody just went into that video and increased the pitch until it sounded like an F1 car.

BTW it DOES have vtec

The 240 horsepower 2.0-liter engine continues unchanged, and no changes are need there. It still has the highest specific power output of any street-legal naturally-aspirated engine, with more power for its size than even the engines of the Italian exotics. As always, it feels like a healthy two-liter from idle to 5000 rpm or so.

At that point, the engine note goes from mellow traditional four-cylinder burble to something more strident, and the uninitiated driver may be tempted to back off. Don't. It gets stronger up to the VTEC cam changeover at 7000 rpm, at which point it gets joyfully insane. In the zone, from 7000 to almost 9000 rpm, the S2000 sounds like a Cosworth-powered Formula One car from the 1970s, and accelerates like one, too.
